In the movie and also in the sequel, it is suggested that it works the same way as it does in England. Being married to royalty doesn't make you the new king/queen when your partner dies. It goes to the oldest child, and if they have no children it goes to the seguinte sibling. This is also suggested in the first movie, as Simba's birth is the reason why Scar cannot become king. In the segundo movie, Simba tells Kiara she will one dia be queen. When I first saw the movie, while watching Zira train Kovu to kill Simba, I asked my mum "why doesn't she just train him to fall in amor with Kiara? That way, when she becomes queen he will be king!" But my mum corrected me and said, "being married to a queen doesn't make you king, it makes you a prince. It's the royal child who becomes the ruler." por default, a royal king's husband is called a queen. And a royal queen's husband is called a prince. And when the ruler dies, the trono goes to their first born. And if they have no children, it goes to the seguinte oldest sibling.
