This mostly depends on who I'm texting/what I'm texting about, but generally I don't always mind.
I prefer a text that contributes to the conversation that takes a while to type than a message like "Ok" or "lol" that takes less than a second to type/send and doesn't contribute to the conversation.
But that again deals a lot with what the conversation is about. A long winded analysys of a cat video would be a lot more annoying than an "LOL", but I'm not particularly fond of conversations that constitute just "LOL" as a response and I generally prefer deep/philosophical conversations where something like that would be inappropriate.
So really, its relative.
What really irks me is when I've sent a message that is deep/meaningful that took a while to type and I either get an "okay" or a switch in topic entirely, and that's happened to me with one particular person more often than I even want to think about. (Ericsson, if you're reading this, no, it's not you. XD)
But generally I don't mind long wait times between messages, because most situations in my case call for it. And, while I'm waiting, I can do something else.
(Sorry if this comment made no sense, I have a LOT of energy right now and my brain is just kind of vomiting everywhere.)
But if we are talking and I just continue the conversation with something like "So thats what Im up to. You?" and then tehy get back to me 2 hours later with something like "Not much" as if they werent gone for 2 hours thinking about what the hell they were doing.
THAT IS TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS. THESE MORTALS, HOW DARE THEY IGNORE ME AND MAKE ME WAIT ?
Honestly, Most Of The Time I Don't Really Mind. People Have Their Lives But There Are Times When I Have A Serious Conversation With People And They Don't Bother To Reply For Days Or Even For Weeks. If They Are Busy I Can Understand That But If They Are Not Then I'm Seriously Pissed Off !!!!
Especially if they're texting me during a bad time like if I'm in class or am driving but they continue to text me anyway, such as my mom. If they expect me to answer them so quickly then why the hell do they take forever to respond, especially if I respond like a few seconds after they texted me? It drives me crazy! But I'm not gonna attack them over it.
