A girl is having a stomach ache. People say it will pass. But her bloodsugar's high, and after an hour, she wakes up in the emergancy room.
The same girl is in class, and feels her bloodsugar dropping. She practically begs the teacher to let her go to the nurse and check her bloodsugar, but the teacher says she cant wait the hora until lunch. The girl wakes up in the nurses office, after almost going into a bloodsugar coma
Another boy doesn't even have a nurse at his school, and has to check his bloodsugar during class before lunch. The teacher yells at him for doing so. Then when he tries to give himself a shot without anyone noticing, the teacher sends him to the princibals office.

Have you ever gotten so hungry, that your legs and/or hands start shaking? Thats what Type 1 Diabetics feel like when their bloodsugar goes low, only ten times worse. And when you go high, your throat aches, and your ribs sting.

I wrote this artigo out of pure truth, and there are much worse stories out there. I know these because I went to a diabetes camp for a week, which is for people with diabetes only, so they can do camp activites with the proper care and caution.
Im Type 1 Diabetic myself, and my experience was so suddon, I didn't even cry about it. I was just in the middle of math class, on October 24th, when my homeroom teacher comes in and tells me that my moms here to pick me up. Im confused, but go get my stuff. [Earlier that week, my mom had taken me to the doctors office because I had been thirsty all the time, having to go to the bathroom all the time, and loosing weight quickly. I was also having regular stomach aches. They drew my blood to take a look.] My mom said we were on our way to the hostpital in Des Moines. She said I had been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She said we should be gratful, because the signs ment either Diabetes or cancer. I would take Diabetes any dia over cancer.
A couple weeks ago, when I was having trouble falling asleep, I let my mind wander. I told myself, "You have Diabetes, and that won't change for a very long time". Thats the first time I cried about it. I haven't cried since. Its been just over a year. Im still going strong.
I wrote this to help people learn mais about Diabetes, and spread awarness. I know Breast Cancer is even mais serious, but I thought Diabetes need a bigger place.
