Who knows really, there have been a few monsters series that have been really popular over the years like digimon, Yugioh, and bakugan but they haven't managed to come close to the recognition that Pokemon has. but i think maybe if there is a series with awesome enough monsters and also really cute ones that appeal to everyone's liking and with out seeming too much like a clone of any other series then maybe it might be able to, but it's all just a matter of popular opinion.
I don't think so since pokemon is one of the most popular/known animes/games there are and the video games are the segundo most popular in the world seguinte to the mario series. I really doubt it could be outmatched
