Please can anyone suggest a good mangá for me?

I'd really like to read mais mangá as I have a few that I really amor but when other people talk about the most popular mangas I never know what they're talking about. The trouble is I seem to be very picky about manga; I'm a girl, but I don't like shoujos as they are nearly always romances with weak female characters who can't last two pages without falling for some equally effeminate boy. The only shoujo I like is Fruits Basket; I really like it, though even that gets a bit soppy at parts for me occasionally.
I do like several shounens...but the shounens I like are kind of different to others. I adore Kiyohiko Azuma's Yotsuba@! and Azumanga Daioh, but there doesn't seem to be any others quite like them and they are completed; several people suggest Lucky estrela for those who like Azumanga but I personally couldn't get into Lucky Star, the humour just seemed a little weak and the characters were not quite the kind I was used to. All other shounens I see seem to be full on gore/sex/over-the-top swearing, everyone seems to rave about naruto and Fairy Tail but I have tried leitura both several times and haven't found either that entertaining. I have been enjoying Death Note recently; I have only read a few chapters so I can't judge much but from what I've read so far it seems to have just the right balance of suspense, fast-moving, understandable plotline (another thing; I've read several mangas such as Wolf's Rain and Hetalia...and I've just not been able to understand head nor tail of them. Maybe I'm just being thick...) and creepiness without being overly gory or 'adult' in any way, or at least not enough so as to deter me.

My ideal mangá would be fantasy, action and comedy, with perhaps a little historical thrown in too, that is easy to understand yet still has a good plotline, humourous yet still including decent action, and good likeable and characterful characters, with romance kept to a minimum. Either that, or a humourous slice of life, again roma

oh no it lopped it off...arrggghh...it's meant to say romance free or kept to a minimum with likeable characters

Your pretty picky about manga, so I can only think of a couple and you may or may not like them. You could try A certain Magical Index and the spinoff, A Certain Scientific Railgun. That's action, comedy and fantasy. There's also Madoka Magica. It's not comedy and it's kind of tragic, but it's not "adult" or gory. If you liked Azumangah Daioh but not Lucky Star, than maybe you'd like K-On?

I am pretty picky lol...thank you, I'd never heard of them, I'll have a look. Maybe it's not so important for fantasia and historical (though I do like those genres) but action and comedy are pretty important for me, especially the characters too.

I read a few chapters of naruto and Lucky estrela and if I'm totally honest...I didn't think much of them. I heard of Dragon Ball though, hadn't heard of the other ones, maybe I'll give them a try!

Have you tried 07-Ghost?
Except the Romance, it qualifies all of other requirements.

I don't mind a bit of romance, just as long as it's not so much that the storyline gets overridden por it. I hadn't heard of this one before.

If you want to try leitura new mangá series, then you should try visiting "Animehere". You can find any series you want and if you just want to read something, pick aleatório mangas (like I do when I'm bored X3). All the pages are translated from Japanese to English so everyone can read them. I don't know if you already know about Animehere I'm just composição literária this for people who don't know XD.
Well, I have a favourite mangá I can suggest. It's about Pokemon (sorry if you don't like pokemon, i just amor them and i think it's the best mangá for pokemon fans. yes, i amor pokemon XD). It's based on the games and not the series (we all know mangá is better than the series). I think you'll find it interesting, because it has everything exept romance (well, you will find romance in some pages >:3). The best thing i like about it, it's that it's so unexpectable and full of mystery. Pretty cool huh? XD anyway this is what I suggest!
