its completely my guessing and rumors ive herd from some kind in the lowest lvls of animê business but they are holding VK season 3 to leave room for the new series with potential and then releasing it after mais of the mangá is done ( if they started right now they would have to stop midway anyways for lack of episodes )

No there is not matsuri hino finished the original book series and tried to make mais of vampire knight but then made it focus on zero and yuki’s relationship and on how ai and ten grew up as kids.
