What do you think of Damon's character?

I amor Damon. I find his character so heartbreaking and tragic. He never gets anything! And, finally, when Elena does choose him he has to break the sire bond por telling her to leave him? That's almost worse than Damon never getting her.
Furthermore, Damon is so complex and has so many layers that it's crazy. He carries around this very convincing hard, violent, and almost mean outer shell, but underneath that is someone so incredible and genuine and good. It's breath taking. Yes, Damon has some less glamorous sides to his personality and he can be pretty stupid at times, but that's part of what makes him so interesting to me.
My coração goes out to Damon every episode because, here is this good guy and he is almost always dealt the worst hand! I really hope things work out for him, in the end. However, his track record is not in his favor. :o(
