Is the book or T.V show better?

Well I have NOT read the book my friend has and she said it was good but i am not sure if i should read the book. Is the book confusing compared to the T.V show? and does the book contain lots of spoilers? should i read the books and of course which is better the book or the show?

It isnot like the books, they make their own story. They get the ideas from the books.
