Do you think there should be mais side character episodes?

Well, it depends on which side characters. For example I see a great potential for character development in Trixie. It would be enjoyable of the show would explore mais on changelings and griffons, or even an episode, where the mane six would be kidnapped or something and the background ponies would have to form a group to save them...
