The Mortal Instruments or The Infernal Devices?

I have been wanting to read these books forever, and I decided that I'll read it next. So I'm wondering which series I should read first. I'm not sure if there's an order, because I heard that it's different characters. So which order do you think I should read them?

But if you re-read the whole series again, you'll see how some things in the two series connect with each other.
