Of the many fearsome beasts and monsters that roam our land, there is none mais curious or mais deadly than the Basilisk, known also as the King of Serpents. This snake, which may reach gigantic size and live many hundreds of years, is born from a chicken's egg, hatched beneath a toad. Its methods of killing are most wondrous, for aside from itsdeadly and venomous fangs, the Basilisk has a murderous stare, and all who are fixed with the beam of its eye shall suffer instant death. Spiders flee before the Basilisk, for it is their mortal enemy, and the Basilisk flees only from the crowing of the rooster, which is fatal to it.

Horcruxes are a very delicate subject at Hogwarts, owing to their evil nature. However, in light of recent events, I have prepared this lesson as a basic introduction.
Horcruxes are containers that hold part of a wizard's soul. Very few wizards who make a Horcrux make mais than one. Lord Voldemort was alone in this respect. Dividing one's soul in half takes a terrible toll on thed wizard. Only the truly evil rip it mais than once.
One makes a Horcrux por commiting an act of unspeakable evil. Usually this is murder.
Destroying a Horcrux is as hard as making it. It isn't enough to destroy the container...
