Why do so many people like Snape?

I realize that he was Valente and that in the end he did the right thing, but I don't understand why he's so popular.

He was very interested in dark magic and was a real death eater for a long time. He held onto his anger at James, Sirius, and Lupin all his life, and he hated Harry for no reason. He was perfectly willing to hand Sirius over to the dementors without even hearing his side of the story first, and he told everyone about Lupin being a werewolf which made him quit teaching at Hogwarts. Snape was really an immature person. When Harry saw his worst memory he refused to teach Harry how to guard his mind even though it was a very important task. Not to mention the fact that he blatantly favored his own students and didn't punish them when they jinxed or else harmed Gryffindors. He terrorized Neville Longbottom and humiliated several other Gryffindors in front of the class just because he could.

Also, why do Snape fãs bash Lily for not forgiving him for calling her a mudblood? It's basically the equivalent of calling a black person the n word, so I don't think that should be forgiven. And Snape fãs hate James even more. I understand that when he was young, James was cruel to Snape, but James grew up to be a good person. When he found out about Lupin being a werewolf, instead of abandoning him like most people would, he, along with Sirius and Peter, became animagi. James was extremely loyal to his friends and was never tempted to cadastrar-se Voldemort. Lily wouldn't have fallen in amor with him if he were a bad guy.

Sakurako does the opposite, actually. The artigo lists reasons NOT to like Snape.

I think we amor him because we've always thought of him as of a shameless deatheater. And then he suprised us all and appeared to be the most loyal character of the series :P

Trust me, I think it's insane that people think Lily should have forgiven him but you have to look at it as a amor story. He called her a mudblood because they were friends for years and he was crushing on her and when James got her... He was crushed. Yes, it was wrong and immature of him with what he did to Remus and Lupin. Snape 'fans' tend to overlook this for the same reason they overlook him being a bad teacher. It was how he grew up to be. Now, he was pushed to the dark side but still went to Albus for help. He had good in him. When he gave Harry his tears, he didn't have his mask on. He was vulnerable just like when Harry slipped through the first time. The first time, he couldn't have Harry knowing that he was a double agent because of the link between him and Voldemort. In the end, he did everything for a reason and those are what Snape 'fans' look at not the bad things he had done.

I think it's partially some effect of his loyalties being revealed so late - it seems to make his heroic aspects stand out more, to some people. And others really like the tragic amor aspect of him doing everything for amor of Lily. I agree though, some people really seem to gloss over his really bad aspects.

Severus Snape is one of many people's favourite character because he was featured quite a lot in the books and he was also one of the good characters.

Severus Snape favoured the Slytherin students so that it wouldn't get reported back to Lord Voldemort that he wasn't loyal to him.

And also because of his own biases. I doubt that not favouring Slytherins would have been seen as enough evidence to suspect him of being a spy

Um . . . I think I don't really LIKE him as much as RESPECT him. I disliked him, even got to the point of hating him por the sixth book, but once I read the seventh book, I softened up a bit toward him. Sure, he did some bad things and got himself into a deep pile of dragon dung, but he turned spy for the Order at great personal risk, all for Lily, and I respect his courage in the end, where Voldemort's about to murder him, and he knows it, yet he didn't plead for mercy or beg to make up. He simply stood and talked to him like it was tea-time.
