How did Tom Riddle in the diary know about Harry?

Voldemort made that horcrux while he was still at school before he'd even heard the prophecy about Harry - and at the time the horcrux was made to carry on opening the chamber of secrets after he'd left school but when he meets Harry through the diary, he doesn't care about wizards being pureblood and just wants to get Harry

There are two possible reasons. #1, Ginny wrote in the diary about Harry. However, this is slightly flawed in that Ginny never wrote about Voldemort's defeat. Thus, my segundo reason is much mais plausible. #2, the diary is a Horcrux. Thus, it contains a bit of Voldemort's soul. Most likely, the pieces are still "in tune" with thed whole and each other. This fits well with DH2 and Harry hearing the Horcruxes.

It is i a horcrux but I thought they weren't still 'in tune' with him because he could never feel when one of them got destroyed

He suspected it. Also, the Riddle in the diary was not mere memory. If it was, then he would not have known about his own defeat. My theory is nothing mais than speculation based on my knowledge. Obviously, the bits of soul can all communicate with each other, as Harry-the-Horcrux can hear them.
