doctor who Article: Doctor Who cost-cutting & other gripes

To me, the 2nd half of the current season of Doctor Who is striking out. I thought "Let's Kill Hitler" was pretty bad, aside from the plot devices dealing with River Song. To me, the tiny people inside the human-sized robot came straight out of the craptastic Eddie Murphy movie "Meet Dave". Making a not-good motion comic instead of filming a motorcycle chase sequence was a sign of laziness & lack of money. The following episode ("Night Terrors") was'nt that much better. The old lady getting sucked into the garbage pile, where'd that come from? Pretty amazing how Amy was miraculously cured from turning into a doll-person.
When I first read the DW cost-cutting rumors, I thought they were just that, rumors. But looking at what's been shown so far, it looks to be true.

bluehue @dc, Thks for opening to "vent" a bit. I missed the season opener..though will view it later this evening. So, I'll get back on that epi. Eeks..I have not seen "Meet Dave," but that link sounds less than promising. I tend to agree that "Night Terrors," was "terrifyingly" not good...inspite of our talented actors trying like the dickens to make it "flow." It seemed stuck in the muck...yuck! (Or in that garbage pile). Half kidding..usually I'm not that "harsh." Oh well, I realize not all episodes can be 5-star..but this disappointed, especially after I've recommended..no, make that "insisted" that my friends start watching Doctor Who..based on series 5 & 6. Do I now have to ask for forgiveness..or more patience? P.S. Budget cutting is in the air..everywhere. I'm hoping the WHO team can adjust and tweak things back to awesomeness...soon! Sigh.

darrinconnell Bluehue, thanks for the reply. Don't get me wrong, I love Doctor Who & will watch it tonight like I always do, I guess it's the cynicism coming out of me. Tonight's episode does look promising, with the white robot-things. I just hope the rumors of Amy & Rory either leaving or not doing that many episodes next season isn't true. Supposedly on the episode "The Doctor's Wife" (which I thought was awesome), instead of having a costly alien, they settled for an Ood. Oh well :).

bluehue @dc, You are welcome. I don't get you wrong..promise. We fans just "care." I'm a fairly new fan of Doctor Who, only watched since regeneration 11 & Matt Smith. I am loving it too. "The Doctor's Wife," also one of my favorites.. a beautiful, richly colorful love story.:) As for "Let's Kill Hitler," I just saw it...then watched it a 2nd time. I enjoyed that more than "Night Terrors." LKH moved along at break neck speed, enough twists & turns to give you whiplash, some very humorous "one liners," Rory, "Shut up Hitler!" But yes, River Song's story is captivating (to me)..as is her intense energy! So, she'll be recovering for a spell at Sisters of Infinite Schism..then on to adventures in Archaeology..hmmm?!! (Cue..Indiana Jones?). Well, I can't wait for her to pop up..though hopefully not on the Doctor's Death Date (22/05/2011)..we keep seeing. ??!! I'll be watching "The Girl Who Waited," too, it does look promising..even though the promo says, "Rory is faced with a difficult decision after witnessing a different side of Amy." Oh oh.

darrinconnell Hi Bluehue: If you have'nt seen the latest DW episode (The Girl Who Waited), catch it. I thoroughly enjoyed it more than the 2 previous episodes, but that's me. The older Amy looked cool with her samurai sword & cobbled-together robot-plating armor; kinda reminded me of a do-it-yourself stormtrooper. I loved how the Future & Present Amy both wanted to be on the TARDIS, & the Doctor was like "No!". I'm hoping that the "River Song as the assassin/Doctor's Death Date" storyline gets resolved somewhat; hopefully, in the end, it will tie in with the season premiere.
