A MUCH better villain, wouldn't you agree?
A MUCH better villain, wouldn't you agree?
So many times on this site I have talked about why I think Maleficent is a bad villain and I have tried explaining once (Swanpride remembers this) but I ended up using tons of bad arguments and I didn't word it properly so now I want to try it again. If you have any disagreements, I would amor to debate about this in the comments so feel free to state your opinions.

What I consider a good villian is not all about cool posing or evil laughs. It's not all about how evil they seem por the way that they act or how many people they get to fear of them. To me, it's all about the ruthlessness, the realims, tactics, and the way they set a theme into a villian. Maleficent's concept was an interesting concept. Maleficent is a symbol of all evil. Maleficent has no care of any being, basically a satanic type villain.

The way that they portrayed this into the storyline though did not quite exactly make sense though. Maleficent arrives at a party and decides to strike fear into people because "she was not wanted". To get revenge and prove to them to do what she orders, she casts a spell on Aurora and that on her sixteenth birthday she will prick her finger into a spindle and die.

During this scene, how she was atuação during her appearance seems quite artificial and makes her appear as a cliche type villain. Their wasn't a single thing about her that made her unique. Yes, she was quite interesting, but not very much on the unique side. mais of one of those villains that you would think of when you think of a cliche story.

She appears during that scene and the first thing that comes out of her mouth is..... An evil laugh, of course! Not only that, but she starts giving her evil laugh way too many times during the scene to be realistic in any way, shape, or form.

The seguinte thing is, if disney wanted to make an interesting rounded villain, they could have made her shades of grey rather then all a dark character. The other option would be to portray this symbol in a better way, but they didn't. They kept her cliche. It's not like Shan Yu, he was an action based character and his role in the movie was made up por his actions rather then his dialogue.

Now Maleficent is not horrendous at playing her role as a villain. She is bad (I will get to that later), but not as bad as some other villians. The main thing that get's me about Maleficent is the way she was done.

seguinte thing, she has bad motives. Why would the devil want to come to a christening? This makes absolutely no sense! Why would the devil want to do that, why? People say this shows mais realism in the fact that she is a quite evil symbol, but she wasn't given a backstory or anything to give us more.

I get it, she was evil and all, but quite artificially evil. A very flat and boring symbol who is made up of very basic and small amount of traits. Not developed at all and not very rounded either. She doesn't have much thought put into her. How easy is it to think of a dark and evil character? She needs to have some kind of perspective or something shown of her in the movie. She is made up of basic traits and is nothing much.

And really, the only reason why people really like her is because of her whole theme. Like just as it was mentioned above, people are so focused on her evilness and her whole theme of green and devil as cores they don't pay attention to anything regarding her depth.

Maleficent is of course super powerful but take a segundo to think, imagine if Maleficent didn't have her powers. Would her character be the same? No. It would not. Which is of course reasonable, but my main point is, people think Maleficent has a real character but she doesn't. Her powers take up her character and it distracts everyone from her herself. Her power is the thing that is moving her throughout the movie and without it she is nothing. She never had a chance for us to see her make a big decision like we did for Shan Yu, we never got to see if she was Valente or anything because we can't thanks to her power. Her power is the thing that is making her seem like this great character but really she isn't. Without her power she is nothing. Shan Yu on the other hand is smart, brave, calm, adaptable, ruthless and we got to see that alot rather then having his strength take over the film.

Here's my quick top10 favoritos of disney Princess movie songs. I get stuck to a new tune or lyrics far easily, if its hummable and peppy especially. I like listening to songs and don't have particular fixed tastes in genres. Though i find, i tend to gravitate towards pop, rock and Indian music. Very rarely I enjoy classical music, although some that I amor become my all time favoritos and they don't die-out. I guess that's how classic música is. Anyways, this is my current list of topo, início 10 favrorites songs from DP movies, it keeps changing for sure as I mover onto newer songs.

.... Or Are They? I keep hearing this massive distortion that Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora and sometimes others are "unrealistically perfect". Well first of all, they're not actually "perfect" but yes they strive for it and come pretty close. The number one reason? The earlier DPs were made in a time where families were still valued as well as good morals and they were on their best behavior in front of children, hoping that the kids would learn to embrace positive traits and reject negative traits so they would be mais positive people. They cared mais about well-roundedness, being modest...

Okay, so I have come across a lot of criticism against Merida that she is childish, rude, reckless, selfish and what not. But since she's my 2nd favorito princess, i'd like to put up a case in her favor for people to consider and see her in better light. I have tried to dissect the movie scenes, probed into possible perspective on various minor details that may have been overlooked.

Why she isn't sophisticated as others:
She no doubt loves both her mother and father, but Merida takes off a part of feisty, loud and unapologetically honest side from her father. She loves to fight with him, laughing...

The saddest moments from DP filmes that made me cry and most often they still do. Some are close to coração while some are so well enacted and animated that i'm moved por the simplicity of emotions.

13. 3 good fadas put the entire kingdom to sleep:
Despite their best of efforts, they lose Aurora to the spell and the only way to make things work is to put the entire kingdom to sleep, waking only when she awakens. It makes me sad to see them blame themselves for this loss. It doesn't make me cry though, but yes, it puts me in a sad mood.

12. cinderela crying in the forest:

Like I stated in my last wallpost I'm about to lose my grandmother and so I decided to write an artigo about some of the Saddest Moments in the DP filmes in no particular order (but I'll mention my number 1 in the end of the article). So anyway hope you'll like this article

Brave: The 2nd Sunrise
I may not be a big fã of Brave, but this scene is sad, when I first saw this movie in the cinemas I cried during this scene and I still find this scene to be quite sad

Cinderella: The Dress Ripping Scene
This scene is so sad to watch everytime, cinderela had the chance of finally getting out of the...

If any of you are familiar with character stylization or really art in general you might like this article. I'm talking about character stylization in the sense that when the artist is also the author of the character's personality and has written out their every thought in simply the way they are designed. This can also be called "interpreted art" as anyone can perceive it differently, but a common factor still remains that everyone agrees on. BASICALLY I'm going to "guess" what the princess' personality is like based on the way she's drawn, see what the general consensus is on her personality...

My Favourite Things from The Sound of Music
Video: link

This song reminds me of the scene in the woods after she's been scared por the dark shadowed shapes of the trees. When she asks the animais what they would do and starts cantar With a Smile and a Song. Well this be an alternative song or whilst she' cantar she could be imagining her favourite things. I can also Snow White cantar this. It does require a positive sounding vocal so it makes sense.

Since this section has been very inactive lately I decided to fresh it up por composição literária another article, about my favorito disney Princesses, hope you'll like this artigo :)

13. Merida

She's the only disney Princess that I don't like at all, but I don't dislike her either, I feel neutral towards her. The main reason might sound weird, but it's mainly because I don't think she fits in the disney Princess lineup, to be perfectly honest I would appreciate her character mais if she wasn't an official disney Princess. Besides that there's nothing wrong about her character except her temper, she's...

Hello All! Due to my life interfering with my time these days, I took a hiatus from artigo writing. I also took a hiatus, because KataraLover and Cruella stepped into the void, and took on the “these are horrible characters argument” in a set of ongoing video discussions that can be found on the video links page of The disney Princess Club. (My hat goes off to them, as they were dispelling the myths and stigmas surrounding certain unbeloved characters). Great work, guys!!!
Since this is the last artigo on the Vices of the disney Princesses, I want to at least say...

I have been inspired por seeing artigos that defend Ariel on fanpop so I thought I would write my own.

Ariel also gets a lot of flack and it drives me insane! People say Ariel is anti-feminist because she gives up her voice to be with Eric. She always wanted to be human. At the beginning of the film she was collecting artifacts of the human world. Do you think she was collecting artifacts because of Eric? The song Part of Your World, she wasn't even cantar about Eric. Her fascination with humans is what lead her to become interested in Eric. If it wasn't her fascination with humans, she wouldn't...
