Do you think athletes are positive role modelos in anyway?

I'm composição literária an oral about this topic and I could use your opinions. I know that there are a countless number of sports stars out there who do disgraceful things. But they also model strength, determination, perserverance and outstanding skills. Some people might argue that athletes are still good role modelos in their area of sports but not in daily life situations. But then there are athletes who go to schools and educate kids about drugs and healthy living. And really, shouldn't it be up to parents to teach encourage aspirations to be as fast a runner as their favourite Olympian, but to also seperate the athletes personal life with their professional? And let's not get in to the media drinking up every single offense athletes commit.
The point is I think both sides are fairly good argument and it makes things difficult when you have to write a persuasive oral. Opinions? Advice?

Well, it mostly depends on what type of athlete is being seen as a role model por teens.

If this athlete was extremely healthy, did everything right por the law, set concrete goals and always achieved them, and basically had most of the characteristics of a successful, respectful, great individual...then yes, this athlete can be looked up to.

But however, if the athlete has a poor attitude, never achieved what he had wished to achieve (he/she puts a wish bone where a back bone should be), does things that are seen as illegal such as taking drugs or steroids, is negligent to his/her own health or is basically a person that a parent would never want their child to become, then no.

I no geral, global think it depends.

Good luck with your oral, I hope I helped you out =D

Sports people are good role modelos when it comes to those attributes that make them so good at their chosen profession. I mean isn't that an oxymoron? Of course it is. But the slippery slope begins when we start judging them por what's not related to sport. Tiger Woods is undoubtedly an excellent golfer. But since when has being an elite sportsperson meant that you are being guided por a superior moral compass? Clearly there is not necessarily any logical connection.

i also think that it depends.because in the sense of being an athlete, yes, they are good role modelos because they promote people or their fãs to be healthy and exercise. but in the personality sense everyone is different so they could be good or bad depending on how your looking at it.

It depends on the type of person the atlete is. If they party, drink, and get in trouble with the law then obviously thier not good role models.

But I agree that they teach children to never give up and reach toward thier goals.

Athletes are the epitome of humanity - our brains and bodies are designed, first and foremost, for athleticism. Hunting requires lots of running, throwing, etc., farming requires lots of human power as well... Those with bodies and minds that are very strong become athletic, and we hold these men and women in high regard naturally.
