I didn't really want Light to die just like that. L could have won but tried to help change Light's perspective I guess on the world.

Light's death was to show us what happens when you try to play as a god.

If L had to die, then might as well.

I personally believe the ending was perfect the way it is.

Brilliant ending I would say. Well if it really happened.

Like many people (probably), I'm a "Light vs. L" fan; no offense to the Wammy House or anything. My attachment to this anime came from the mindgames and confrontations that Light and L had. Even though I am a Kira fan all the way and Light wanted L dead, it was a little upsetting to actually see L die, because that was the end of the Light vs. L showdown (and in the eyes of some people including myself, the end of the anime right there). However, I feel that it would have been nice to see L survive to the end, actually beat Light, but change him through the process. L mentioned that Light was one of his first friends, and even Light at times seemed hesitant to do things because of his "friendship" (which he tried so hard to deny to himself) with L. Perhaps L could have shown Light things in a different point of few after Light had been defeated, and then together, they could build a new world without the means of a death note (I know it sounds a bit corny, but I like it all the same).
