Stefan realized Damon was not on games anymore Damon was falling in love with Elena and that's why he said he knew even if he left town Damon would not follow him but would stay in town because of Elena. (Struggle Book) - Elena about her and Damon "Frankly my dear I don't give a damn about anyone else."- Damon to Elena Fury Book Those were the early days when Damon was selfish and he had a selfish love for Elena. That Damon is who Elena is meant to be with. I cannot understand how anyone can read a quote like that and say Damon and Elena are just lust. I’ll carry you"- Elena to Damon (Shadow Souls book) ^In this scene Damon was very close to death and Damon kept begging Elena to leave but she was determined to save Damon and she stayed with him. “I just kissed you. I’m kissing you again. Can you feel that? Forever, Elena, Damon said. I’ll…take it with me. It’s part of me now…do you see?” - Midnight Book (Damon & Elena) ^^Damon will remember Elena kiss forever? Lust is not something that last forever its not something you treasure. Some people don't think. "You felt the call of my heart to yours. Try to deny that. Something in Elena kept whispering to her that of course she had heard his call from the moment she first saw him." (Midnight) Damon & Elena. ^^You forgot the first part of the quote where Damon says "You felt the call of my heart to yours try to deny that. You don't make references to the heart if your relationship is based on lust. When you talk about the heart your referring to deep love. Again do you see how stupid it makes some people look when they say Damon and Elena are just lust "Damon do you remember when we first met? At school, after the lights went out, when I was measuring for the Haunted House decorations. I almost let you kiss me then -before i even knew your name- when you just came drifting out of the darkness." "Yes…and you…you astonished me by being the first girl I couldn't influence right away. You've always known that haven't you- Elena "Yes, Always."- Damon Elena and Damon (Midnight Book) ^^^ So you see they've been in love with each other for a very long time it just intensified with time but they never said it to each other because they were to afraid to reveal what they truly felt. ^^^Memories from when they 1st met which they both cherish. I’LL ALWAYS BE WITH YOU- Elena to Damon (Midnight Book) "I love you Elena. Not just because of him. I love you too." Damon to Elena (Midnight Book) There are some quotes between child Damon and Elena I'll have to find them but I keep reading crap like Elena only talks to Damon telepathically but not to Child Damon. Have these people read Midnight Book. Elena talks to child Damon quite a number of times in Midnight book when Damon was dying. Anyway this is all I can remember ATM but I'm sure there is more. But honestly I don't know how anyone can read this and say Damon and Elena are just lust or say Damon loves anyone else other than Elena aka Bonnie. WTF how clearer does it need to get. Bonnie because she's so childish and doesn't listen when and put herself in danger and Damon is not some heartless bastard he does care for her so of course he'll try to save her he surely didn't think he'll meet his death in the process. I can't even begin to tell you how much book Bonnie is on my most hated list because she is the reason Damon is dead. If she would of stayed quiet and not worry about the star ball Damon would still be alive. Well he's alive just not in their world. But yes Damon has love once only once he said that on his last breath how can anyone deny that is beyond me. Anyway thanks for posting this article Damon and Elena in the books are the best. LotusWhispers I do think that Damon thinks Bonnie is cute, has a harmless little crush on her and ultimately cares for her as a good friend. However, he never puts her in the same league as Elena, and never chooses her over Elena. People have said "He liked her before Elena!" Um, so what? If he likes Bonnie so much, tell me why he doesn't tell her he wants her by his side, why he doesn't tell her he's in love with her, why doesn't he kiss her passionately like he does with Elena? If Damon really loves Bonnie, why would he hurt her by rubbing his love for Elena in her face constantly, when he was alive and again when he's dying? He told Elena he only loved once, and I think this was right in front of Bonnie. He reached over Bonnie to hold Elena's hand when he thinks he has his last breath, not Bonnie's. He didn't hold both girls' hands or Bonnie's, he made the choice to share his last moments on Earth dedicating them to Elena. He said Elena's love made his life mean something, not Bonnie's and the only thing he said to Bonnie in the end was that he was sorry for being mean to her and if she can forgive him. I mean, the fact that Damon was mean to Bonnie in the first place, doesn't that say a lot? In the earlier books, he describes her as being too cheery for him, too childish and he said that Elena never annoys him like Bonnie does with her antics. I put the exact in the article, he says this exact thing in Shadow Souls! "It was difficult for anyone to stay annoyed at Elena. You couldn’t say she was too exuberant, like Bonnie or too serene, like Meredith." And then he goes on the say that he needs to save 3 girls, ONE OF THEM, ELENA, is his jewel of humanity. I mean, for real. He didn't even want Bonnie to come along with him and Elena to the Dark Dimension in Shadow Souls because he felt she couldn't handle it and that Elena could. Damon to Elena: “You’re probably taking them to their deaths, you know. You, I could probably protect. But you and Stefan, and your two little teenage girlfriends…I can’t.” Wow, he doesn't even call Bonnie by name, how special. He calls her Elena's little teenage girlfriend. And what's really ironic, is he was right! Bonnie goes to the Dark Dimension in Midnight, and he has to save her because she isn't capable of doing it on her own like he felt Elena was. I'm sorry but Damon may think Bonnie is cute and amusing, at times (not even all the time) but he is head over heels for Elena and he doesn't even care if Bonnie sees it or is hurt by it. On the other hand, Damon and Bonnie's "relationship" (quote end quote!) is so subtle and miniscule, it doesn't even register to Elena. Damon would NEVER wave anything around with Bonnie in front of Elena. It's only when Elena is not around, that he does anything with Bonnie, whether it be because Elena is dead or in another dimension. I think this speaks volumes. If this was a play, Elena would be Damon's leading lady, and Bonnie would be the alternate.

jendelena ^^^ So true at least we can say yes Damon cares for Bonnie but he's not in love wit her. Do you realize Damon never ever thinks about Bonnie. She's never on his mind, you never read anything about how Damon feels for Bonnie. Out of sight is out of mind. But throughout the books your reading how Damon feels for Elena and he finally in Midnight Book says the actual I love you words but he never said it before. He wanted Elena to know he loved her and only her on his last breath he wanted her to know that. How in the heck anyone can say otherwise is beyond me. Its actually denying what the author wrote. Which means some people have created their own version of Vampire Diaries and is not even taking into account what was actually written. Also here is another "humanity quote" "Worst of all was the fact that charming girls, deceiving girls, was practically Damon’s own raison d’être. It was certainly the only reason he’d been able to keep on living for the past half millennium. And yet he knew that he must not, must not even start the process with this one girl who, to him, was the jewel lying on the dung heap of humanity. To all appearances, he was perfectly in control, icy and precise, distant and disinterested." -Narration about Damon & Elena (Shadow Souls Book) ^^^^ Yes so its what the author has written. People honestly look really silly denying what the author has in fact written. There are many other quotes in the books that shows Damon and Elena's deep love a love so when I find them I'll post it.

bratski2192 Love these quotes!!!! <3 Im not gonna bash or anything, but from what I understand, some book-DB fans reason for Damon not saying that he did in fact love Bonnie was becuz he hadnt realized his deep-hidden love for her. Um, theres a few problems with that logic. First, wouldnt have Elena seen any of that in his soul/chained boy & his mind? Wouldnt he have admitted his true feelings if he were to die? His long-unspoken love for Elena finally came out into the open & now supposedly hes lying when hes dying?! Now, another thing that some say is that LJ saying that Damon would grow to love Bonnie in The Hunters Trilogy if she had written it doesnt mean too much, even if he did get jealous or not. His feelings for Bonnie may grow to love, but true/pure/unspoken love? I just dont c it after Midnight. Id think that wed have been cheated out of what was said in the Original Series & The Return Trilogy. Its not just me wanting to c anything past Delena either. Its whats printed as plain as day in all of the books, stating Damons undying, passionate, & eventual selfless love for Elena to his last breath. JMO.

LotusWhispers I wouldn't be surprised if the reason he "fell in love" with Bonnie is because he got amnesia after appearing on the moon. That would be the only way LJ could give Bonnie the upper hand over Elena. Like I said, Damon only seems to care somewhat of Bonnie when Elena is not around but when she is, he picks her over Bonnie everytime. Name me a time where Damon kissed Bonnie or some other sign of affection in front of Elena? Never. Name me a time where Damon did for Elena? There are several. I can't see how Damon would love Bonnie if he kept throwing her to the side whenever Elena was around.

jendelena ^^ @Deluv as a Delena book fan its really unfair Delena story ends at Midnight Book but I appreciate LJ writing a beautiful Delena journey in the books and Damon & Elena are truly meant to be so that's all that matters :)

JanaP I believe that after Damon lost his memory and he has supposed to get close to Bonnie,the only way I can imagine it, because he don´t remember loving Elena. I think it was said for a reason: "Loving JUST ONCE, WILL YOU REMEBER IT ELENA" He could just say I love you, but the author for a reason decided that he says like in the future Elena need to remember it.

jendelena ^^^^ You know it as usual Bonnie is just used to get a reaction out of Elena. We all know Damon cares for the little bird she's helpless always getting herself in some kind of danger but Damon saving her does not indicate love it just shows Damon is not heartless and like Elena said he does and can care for human beings. So its clear that we would have finally start seeing jealous Elena well I guess that's all squashed now either way Damon & Elena are true love <333

LotusWhispers Wasn't there an email where LJ said she had a scene planned in the next book where Sage and Damon were in a dorm or an apt or something and the sun was rising. Then Damon turned to Sage and said the only thing more beautiful was Elena? I can't remember if it was you or my friend Amanda who got this email!

Damon and Elena story is so epic because you have two people that are truly meant to be but because of the situation they are in they're not allowed to be together. Their love is forbidden, wrong. *bawlssss* I always say if two people love each other then it doesn't matter what other people say Love doesn't ask questions its not black and white , wrong or right it just is and it just happens can't control it :)

HaleyDewit I just don't understand how some people can't see the love between Damon and Elena. Are they blind or just being ignorant?
