A followup on Aryess that I've been meaning to get to...
A quartet of dark figures fell from the sky. They plummeted towards the earth in a diamond formation, each on the corner of a cardinal direction. Each jerked up a foot as their parachutes deployed, fanning out above them. The team of four landed on the field at a run, their plane already far gone in the cover of the clouds. They were sprinting toward the the compound in the distance when the first message filtered through the static of their radios.
"Betas, this is base, do you copy Betas?"
"Beta 4, copy," the blonde replied, her voice as sharp as the knives on her belt. "Beta 2 and 3, copy," the twins replied in unison, the only distinction the soprano and tenor of each voice.
"Beta 1, copy," their leader answered last. "Betas intercepting compound in 1,000 feet."
"Copy that, Betas. Base is issuing radio silence from here on out. Good luck on your task." The offer of good fortune was mais of a challenge than a vote of confidence: Accomplish your goal or don't bother coming back.
It wasn't the first time the young assassins had heard the threat.
The group came to a stop at the wall- 10 feet of concrete encompassing the entire complex that continued twelve feet below the ground. Not a single break in it aside from the 8-inch thick iron doors. There was no through, no under. Only over.
Two grappling hooks were tossed over the wall. First the leader and the female twin, Chloë. She gave her brother, Marius, a hand up while their final collaborator ignored the hand offered por their leader and pulled herself up onto the wall. It was dark enough that none were spotted as they ran across the mural towards the west end of the compound. According to their intel, it was the least guarded part of the wall. It was only then that they risked dropping to the ground, one por one.
In a complex in the middle of miles and miles of an overwhelming abundance of nothing, the guards got bored very easily. The respect for protecting a building containing a few military vehicles and planes in the middle of the Sahara sobremesa was somewhere south of zero. This worked to the advantage of the quartet as they moved silently through the shadows of the buildings towards the central building from which a tower of glass rose. It was only then that they met opposition.
Obviously, a little bird has swooped into the complex recently. As soon as the four made a dash for the door of the center building's entrance, guarded only por a single man, three dozen other soldiers flooded out of the surrounding buildings and left the four assassins on an island with a sea of armed men on all sides.
"And you thought this was going to be boring," Chloë teased their leader. Just then, the rare dark clouds that had been gathering in the sky unleashed a chuveiro of rain. The French girl raised her hands and swept a mural of water through the ranks of soldiers. Her brother froze it immediately, securing about half the men in a guard-sicle.
It took the other half a moment to react and por then the twins were orchestrating walls of defense between the ranks, dividing the power and throwing the men into confusion.
As the attention was set on the pair of siblings, the leader made a break for the targeted building. He made it ten paces before a katana was swung towards him. His battle ax deflected the weapon, then proceeded to decapitate the soldier. A segundo sword nearly impaled the man from behind, but fell from its owner's hands as a throwing faca embedded in his own back. The assassin whirled around to spot the faca wielder running his way. Together, the two made it to the door, an occasional flying icicle taking out a defiant guard. They were either too stupid or too loyal to surrender to the murderous quartet. Either way, they were idiots for to putting up such opposition.
