Chapter Twenty Five

Aden cupped her face in between his hands, alarmed at how hot her skin felt.
“Are you all right?” He couldn’t stand how far away she was, even though it was only a few feet. He pulled her closer. Her face nodded meekly in his hands.
“I-” Her mouth opened, but before she could say anything else, her eyes rolled back into her head and she was falling. He moved with a speed that surprised even himself. Nothing would happen to her. Nothing. He vowed that to himself over and over. He couldn’t shake the picture of her coming up behind the other Vamp, blue eyes sparking in outrage, blonde hair streaming around her like she had her own personal wind, out of his head. He had never seem anything quite as beautiful and scary at the same time. This…. Human girl was making him feel things he had never felt before. He had never been scared of anything before in his life, but when he saw her, looking so calm and collected, holding her stake, he had never been mais afraid of what was going to happen to her. He hadn’t feared for himself as the stake was posed above his heart. He had feared what would happen to her if he was killed. Would she end up with that Mangy shape shifter? Would she even make it out alive?
But those thoughts fled his mind as he scooped her up in his arms before she even got close to the floor. Her head lolled back against his shoulder, and he had to force himself not to think about how silky her hair was on his arm, or how good she smelled.
“Anna.” He didn’t waste time speaking telepathically. This way everyone would hear.
She glanced over at him quickly.
“ We need to get her out of here. Now.” He ordered, trying to tamp down his growing panic. Glory felt too warm in his arms. Too still. The renegade vampiros were dwindling in numbers, most retreating or lying in pieces in on the floor.
Lupe bounded toward him, followed closely por Gabe and Roslyn. Anna finished off her last Vamp appeared seguinte to him
“ Come on Damien.” Anna gestured for him to come closer.
He looked at them warily, the pele, peles standing up along his back.
Aden’s temper spiked.
What are you doing?
Anna leveled serious eyes on him. He has changed sides. You’ve read his mind.
Doesn’t mean we shouldnt leave him here to die. Aden knew even his mental voice would reveal his jealousy.
Just because he’s in amor with her doesn’t mean you have to let him die. As you have forgotten, Glory hasn’t clearly made her choice yet.
Aden’s eyes narrowed and his breath came out in a hiss.
“ Let’s just get out of here.” He muttered and looked down into Glory’s peaceful face. Her cheeks were flushed with fever, but he could still see the faint scratch from the cozinha faca incident.
Anna nodded and everyone crowded around her. Aden didn’t even pay attention as the air wavered around them. He had been through this before. He just concentrated on Glory’s face to keep his anger from erupting. He memorized her every feature.
“Aden, we need to get her looked at.” Anna’s cool voice was strong as she watched him lower Glory to the couch, now that they were back at the seguro house.
“No, we cant risk it.” Lupe’s voice cut into the group as she came forward. She knelt beside Glory, brushing hair off of her forehead.
“ What do you mean?” Anna asked, frowning.
“ Think about it. Nicolas will use any chance he can to get her back. The Doctor would be a perfect opportunity.” Lupe said in a practical voice.
“She’s right.” Gabe agreed.
“ Of course you think she’s right!” Aden snapped, his fury finally unleashing itself. “ You would do anything to go along with her!”
“ You know they’re right.” Damien’s voice joined in.
Aden clenched his fists. “You need to keep out of this.” He paused, his temper flaring. “Actually, I take that back. You want to be in this? Me. You. Outside. Now.”
Anna clutched his arm quickly. “Aden, what are you doing?” She hissed.
“Something that needs to be done.” He growled back and glared at Damien, who looked back without wavering.
“ Let’s go.”
Damien turned toward the door, and Aden glanced back down at Glory. She would hate him when she woke up, but this needed to be done. He traced a finger down her soft cheek, and turned toward the door, his face a mask of stone.
