CHAPTER ONE- Who I am
"GAME ON, BROTHER", I whispered, so quiet that no human would be able to hear it but loud enough for Emmett to understand. We always did this, had sprinting races, 10kms long. Jasper (my older, older brother) never bothered racing me.
"Game on, little sister", he whispered back. We held these races in the forest, because if any human saw our races, we’d make the front page. So I guess it’s a good thing we live Forks, the most green, forest-y place ever! I mean, there’s a de praia, praia and it actually occasionally gets sunny, but it can also get really dark and gloomy. The weather changes as the seasons do.
And off we ran, 100km per hour. Let me explain, now don’t freak out but we’re vampires. Yep, real vampires. But not the traditional ‘Dracula’ vampires. Well, we’re very similar, just better!
We can go out in the sunlight without burning, but it makes us weak. And not going in the sun means we can study and stuff during the night, making us super smart. We drink blood, of course, but we drink animal blood in my family, the vegetarians of the vampire world. We don’t need to be invited into houses to be able to walk into them, but we prefer to, I mean, how rude would it be to walk in where you aren’t wanted? And of course, the classic, can we turn into bats and mist/fog? Bats, yep, which is cool because it’s a fast way to travel, and mist, well, most of us can, but most of us just don’t! It makes us really, really tired, and exhausts us mais than the sun does and I think life’s too short to waste time sleeping because of turning into gas.
And we have a few other advantages. We have ‘super speed’. In basic English, we run 20 times faster than any human. And I run faster than your average vampire, so I’m pretty damn fast. Which is why I amor races with Emmett. But I know I should stop showing off because Emmett’s ‘super strong’. He’s stronger than any vampire and we’re really strong. Me, a 55kg female, can carry an 150kg man with one hand. We can lift up practically anything. And Emmett’s even stronger than that, so I can count on losing an arm wrestle with him when we get home. And fangs? No... well, not to human eyes. To humans, are teeth are white, sharp, and perfect. To sobrenatural creatures such as myself, we have fangs! And some of us have mais powers above that. I have telekinesis, meaning, I can mover things with my mind, not always helpful, especially when things include my older brothers who weigh much mais than I can handle, don’t move. But it’s pretty cool, and Emmett has the ‘power’ of telepathy. Lucky thing! He can read others thoughts and push his thoughts into other peoples minds, cool right? And Jasper can feel and manipulate others emotions. Poor Carlisle (our ‘father’) doesn’t have a power. But he is compassionate to all creatures, alive or not, so it sort of works that he is the best doctor in Forks. He has had a lot of time to practice though, only 300 years or so of studying at night!
Well, there you have the basic need-to-know guide on vampiros of the 21st century.
But don’t assume we’re all the same. Some of us burn in the sun, some drink human blood, while others can turn into any animal they wish. There are many species of vampiros and many races so don’t make the mistake of thinking your seguro from all vampires.
Where are my manners? I haven’t even introduced myself yet. I am Stephanie and I’m going to tell you my story- it’s a sad one and it’s unpleasant but I’ll tell you.
