Live, Laugh, Love
The Johnstons are saddened to have caused their good friends, the Upshaws, to be kicked out of the game. Dad Cameron Johnston recalls a plaque above the Upshaws cozinha door that says “Live, Laugh, Love.” He says that it describes the Upshaws perfectly. Despite their sadness, the Johnstons believe that they made the right decision because the Upshaws were such strong competitors. Meanwhile, the Schindlers celebrate their unexpected presence in the final two.
All’s Quiet on the Neighborhood Front
The seguinte day, Dad Cameron Johnston sits in the early morning remarking on the stillness of the neighborhood with only two families remaining, “A neighborhood is only as good as the neighbors in it.” He says that it hasn’t sunk in that winning $250,000 dollars is only one challenge away, and the difference that the money would make for his family since he was laid off two years prior. As the quiet dia wears on, the Schindlers invite the Johnstons over for a nacho feast. It’s the first time the Johnstons have ever cooked out with only the Schindlers, and Dad Cameron Johnston wishes that he had known the family better six years ago, but he is happy to have met them now. The families reflect on the other neighbors and believe that there will have to be some repair work on the relationships when the walls come down.
Final Challenge
Host Matt Johnston calls the final two families, the Schindlers and the Johnstons, out into the yard for their final Neighborhood Challenge, an ultimate neighborhood obstacle course which will take them through the front and back yards of all of their neighbors. Both families will pick three members who will each compete in one leg of the three part obstacle course. For the first leg, they will race past a series of obstacles to a flor garden and dig for a giant dog bone. When they have retrieved the bone, they will use it to break open a piñata until they find a bag of puzzle pieces. They will hand off the bag to the seguinte family member for the segundo leg. The segundo family member will then run to a large bin filled with balloons and pop them until they pop the one that holds a key inside. They will then use the key to open a shed, inside of which they will discover a lawn mower and a segundo bag of puzzle pieces. They will hand both puzzle piece bags and the lawn mower to the third family member, who will use the lawn mower to mow down the grama of a putting green until they can sink a hole-in-one. When they do, a bird-house above the putting green will release a third bag of puzzle pieces. Using all three bags of puzzle pieces, they will build the rungs to a ladder, climb to the topo, início of a ladder, and ride a zip line down to the finish line.
Matt tells them that, if they win this challenge, they might have a better shot at winning the $250,000 prize. Tomorrow, all of the families who have been kicked out of the game are coming back for a BBQ, and each one of their family members will be casting a ballot in a neighborhood election to support the family that they want to win the prize. The BBQ will give the final two families the opportunity to have one-on-one face time with all of the voters, and the winner of this Neighborhood Challenge will host the BBQ and have a chance to campaign. The losers will arrive late to the BBQ and only have half the time to campaign.
Now that they know the stakes, the families begin the race. Leg one begins with 12-year-old Noah Schindler versus the Johnston’s niece, Theresa. Noah makes quick work of the obstacles and is the first one through. However, Theresa unearths her dog bone first and retrieves the first bag of puzzle pieces. The Johnstons begin leg two and start popping balloons. Noah hands off to his mom, Christina, who slides into the balloons. Regina has almost popped all of her balloons, but can’t find a key. Christina finds her key quickly and passes Regina up, handing off the lawn mower and puzzle bags to David. Regina has popped all of her balloons, but doesn’t see her key lying on the bottom of the bin. She finally finds it, but David Schindler maintains the lead, completing the ladder and zipline first and winning the Neighborhood Challenge for the Schindlers.
Reunion
As hosts of the BBQ, the Schindlers prepare for the arrival of their neighbors, setting out tables and lighting the grill, while the Johnstons wait in their início and discuss whose votes they need to secure. Cameron Johnston says that he is not going to go out and be phony asking for votes, but Regina is ready to campaign hard. At the Schindler’s BBQ, the families who had been previously kicked out of the game return and greet the Schindlers. Mom Susan Bussiere says that feelings were hurt during the game but, “My hope is that healing will happen and our neighbors will all be tighter because of this experience that we’ve had together.” The families ask where the Johnstons are, and David Schindler explains that the Schindlers finally won a challenge and, as their prize, they are receiving extra time with their neighbors. He explains that every family member gets a vote individually to vote for the Johnstons or the Schindlers to win the game.
The Schindlers serve up the BBQ, but decide not to come across too strong, and don’t really campaign directly for votes. Their strategy is to just be good friendly people. However, the Johnstons don’t know what is being discussed and are nervous waiting in their house. When the Johnstons arrive, they waste no time campaigning, especially Regina who greets everyone with, “Are you going to vote for us?” With the reunion, the neighbors discuss what the game has done to their neighborhood, and 20-year-old Christopher Upshaw describes it, “You can think of the neighborhood as a pond, someone threw a rock in it, and you just gotta wait for the ripples to settle down and everything to come back and we’ll be good to go.”
Neighborhood Election
Host Matt Rogers ends the BBQ and tells everyone to leave the Johnstons and Schindlers behind and that it’s time for the Nieghborhood Election. Both the Schindlers and the Johnstons go into the election in high spirits, happy about the bonding time they have had with their families and their neighbors behind the wall. As dusk falls, the neighbors gather for the last time with an election booth waiting. Dad Chris Nelson states that they started the game with a core of five families, but they have ended it with three mais families joining the core, the Schindlers, the Southeys and the Bussieres. Other families agree that no geral, global the game has been a good experience for them. One por one, each family member enters the booth and casts their vote. In the end, the winner of THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD, por a vote of 21 to 3, is the Johnston family, making them a quarter of a million dollars richer.
