zanhar1 First and foremost, I don't mean any offense in saying the following; Yes, I give her credit, in the beginning she seemed to care for her family and was insecure (which is a good character flaw.) But as the series wore on she ended up breaking away from those insecurities and the only flaws she had. Leading her down the path of being a Sue. It was around season 4 that I feel she became a narcissistic character--she's almost topping Icy in that area...and that is [b]not[/b] good for a protagonist. She wasn't an attention hog in the beginning and she had flaws in the beginning, but she sure as heck became that way; She's a Mary sue. Everyone falls at her feet and worships her, be it her friends, other students attending Alfea, or her real life fans. The author also made her nearly flawless, it's painful to see! She's 'nice', 'brave', 'strong', and 'has the strongest power'. All are elements of the dictionary definition of the term Mary-Sue, therefor making her the epitome of the word boring. Bloom is just your typical main character. Always saving the world never doing wrong. She's got a typical main character back story; girl discoverers she has powers, girl finds out she's from another planet (and a princess at that), girl becomes confused, girl seeks out answers (which she did poorly by the way), girl ends up saving the world. And even worse, she's the only one to ever get support or comfort. Musa lost her mom and it was hardly spoken of, Stella turns into a monster she's comforted a little and no more after. Where as Bloom was supported and comforted by everyone, including strangers! Even worse is the fact that the creator isn't the only favorite picker she gets way too much attention by the fandom and in the show. Bloom wasn't the only one to defeat the trix in season one but she got all the claps and praise from the characters. She barely did anything in season 2 to beat Darker (in fact she was actually helping him and the others had to break her from that trance) yet the boys and other winx get no credit, even though they did most of the work. Same goes for season 3, Musa Stella and Tecna were the ones to get the water stars but Bloom got all the credit for using them. I didn't watch much of season 4 but I could imagine it was the same. And then there's the fact that she has become a show off. Particularly in season 5 when she goes around showing off her dragon fire to all of Gardinia. And why is she the lead singer in the Winx's band? She's not even a good singer. Musa is the fairy of music, why isn't she the lead singer in the band? Here's one definition of a Mary-Sue; [i]The Sue usually ends up upstaging all of the other characters in the book/series/universe.[/i] Sound familiar? And this is painfully true. I already covered how Bloom became the lead singer and upstaged Musa, ya know, the fairy of music. So lets move onto the fact that she has so much of a back story that there was no room to discuss the 3 main antagonists' (5 seasons in the running) histories at all, not even the name of their home planets or parents (just a glimpse at what they used to look like. She has so much screen time that her fellow Winx like Tecna and Musa hardly have any background either. Like legit, we know that Bloom was 16 in season 1 and liked extra-cheese pizza--yet we don't even know the official age of the Trix, we can only guess based on the fact that Icy mentions they're seniors in college (which varies dub to dub). And let's not forget who gets most of the credit after final battles. Bloom is such a Sue that even the people she upstaged give her the most credit for something they all did together with equal contribution. Tecna sacrificed her life for Tides she gets a few claps. Bloom believes in herself and she gets a party. In every season finale it's 'woo hoo Bloom saved us all' not 'yay the Winx saved us'. And then there's the recent God forsaken Bloomix, if that isn't upstaging all the characters I don't know what is! Long story short, in this regard, she wasn't bad in the beginning but became that way. I actually didn't mind her in season 1. I was in season 2 that she began to annoy me. Which is a shame because usually it works the opposite way; flawless character becomes more developed and flawed not well developed character loses all flaws. As for the Diaspro thing; Legit, Bloom crashed day of the royals and pretty much assaulted Diaspro--a princess on a whim, simply because she saw her with Sky. Honestly if this were a real life situation Bloom--your average girl (at this point she didn't know she was a princess)--wouldn't stand a chance against a princess-to-be in court after attacking her for 'taking her man'. In fact execution would probably be certain. Yet somehow she gets by with a simple and temporary power delusion. You're probably thinking 'yeah, well she was punished so there is no double standards.' Fair enough, but this is where the fandom comes in; at this point Diaspro's the villain now in their eyes. And then later on you come to see that--low and behold--Diaspro really is evil in the show. Not because she actually is, but simply because she doesn't like Bloom. (Same can be said for Mitzi). How does this tie into double standards? Bloom can steal Sky from Diaspro and walk out without being punished servery, but Diaspro attempts to take him back and she's a villain--deemed both by the fandom and the other characters. Do I think Diaspro is a villain? No not at all. She's more of the victim than anything. How would you feel if some jerk came in and took your husband? I'd be mad too. She had every right to be mad that Bloom took her husband. It's really annoying how Bloom gets away with everything and any character that simply doesn't like her is automatically evil. It's just as much her fault as it is Sky's for continuing to go for him. She successfully aided him in neglecting his responsibilities as prince. And as for the toys; yes she's the lead character, but they don't have to deliberately cast all the others aside for her [i]all the time[/i].
