She can't be Red John. Amanda Righetti is 25 or 26, and when you see the shot that Jane sees the letter from Red John before he sees his wife and daughter dead, Jane looks like somewhere in the twenties. And I can't imagine a little teenage Van Pelt living in Iowah(or which state it was?) killing people in wherever Jane was at that moment. (It's just a hunch =P)

No way! First af all, Red John has to be older.. and second thing I am convinced that he's someone that Jane knew in his past, but he and Van Pelt met each other for the first time in the Pilot ;)

NO WAY! -- I just remember, before I start watching The Mentalist, I saw Bosco lying on some kind of a stretcher and whispering to Jane, then I thought he was Red John. Silly me. :(

About this pick, I just remembered Red John HAS to be a man, so anyway it's impossible that Van Pelt is Red John!!

i know that she is not and that would be awful if she was but it would be an interesting twist.

She CAN be, nobody knows anything about the REAL red john, its 1 person? 2? since the begining red john used people to act for him, so even the meet between patrick and the red john with a mask and male voice has a interesting point, red john's voice was modified if u notice, so could be a female. Also, the way he knows everything happening around patrick and in the police department, always 1 step ahead of him and his partners can indicate someone very near him, and if red john is really a master of mind control, even better than patrick, she could really be him, and the last episode coulb really be something like "red john the redhead" haha xD

I review all 3 seasons in these days, backward (only seasons, not all episodes...), skipping the 3 season final.
And before saw it, i thougth that red john could be Van Pelt! Then i searched on internet but i only find that post...
so what do you think about that?

*) the series doesn't start with patrik, but with the arrival of van pelt.
*) in a series where every episode start with a red name, whe have a RED HEAD at strict contact with jane.
*) she disappoint it about the real existence of mentalists
*) she is ever at office where they meet an episode where is involved john
*) on the bathroom the man write with his own blood "is a mar...shal"
*) she had 2 man in police (to control)
*) she is in strict contat with jane and all the CBI from the beginning of serie
*) patrick when encouter her the first time, say about a proably trauma in her life
*) when john connects to the internal net of cbi, she is at the pc and
is her that is communicating with him

And in the last season finale, his man is an accomplice (maybe he don't know about the real face of john or not), and this man will never shoot at her.

No Way! I don't think that would be something at all-It would catch many off guard (and if she was) as for me I would probably be hoping she would be joking in that situation-and honestly I've pictured Red John as a male.

She is too young to be red John but I do think she might be working for red John. I always thought Jane was red John but I know he's not now.

No way - Based on the recent “Red Barn” episode, Van Pelt seems to be a real long shot. The episode focused on Red John-related crimes that occurred 25 years before. That would make Van Pelt around 4 to 6 years old when the crimes occurred. I guess it’s possible, but I would not bet on it.
