Mockingjay Part 2: Sequel Might See Katniss-Peeta-Gale amor Triangle; trailer coming May 22

There are still a couple months left before the November 20 release of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, but Lionsgate is already fanning the flames of the fans\' excitement with the expected release of the explosive movie trailer on May 22.

In an interview with MTV News, director Francis Lawrence said The Hunger Games\' Mockingjay Part 2 is "a real war movie" -- a stark contrast to the first part which focused on Katniss\'s personal battles and the rebels\' massive propaganda to undermine the leadership of President Snow.

If the franchise stays faithful to Suzanne Collin\'s novels, the second half of the movie will focus on the rebels\' offensive against the Capitol, which will involve casualties and the sacrifice on the part of the rebellion.

The trailer was originally expected to be released last April 24 in time for the opening of Blake Lively\'s Age of Adeline but fans were disappointed when it got pushed back.

The Projection List, a database of release dates for movies, direct to DVD, television series and trailers, has revised the projected trailer release date for May 22 in time with the opening of George Clooney\'s Tomorrowland.

Studio executives have yet to confirm the schedule, but hinted that a prequel or sequel may be in the works for Suzanne Collins\' trilogy turned movie franchise.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said that the studio is not closing the door to expanding the franchise to explore the love triangle that will revolve around the central characters of Katniss Everdeen, played by Academy Award Winner Jennifer Lawrence, Peeta Mellark, played by Josh Hutcherson and Gale Hawthorne, played by Liam Hemsworth, the Inquisitr reported.

Based on the original ending, Katniss and Peeta end up together with Gale working with the new government, but if there are additional movies that are being considered by studio executives, the ending may be changed to establish a continuation for the story.

A potential prequel, on the other hand, raises the possibility of developing a love story between Katniss and Gale before Katniss joined the Hunger Games.

"[We\'re] actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities," Feltheimer said.
