She likes him! They are friends!
And I believe that most BBT fãs didn't like the way the show turned Sheldon into a child. It was creepy(on Leonard and Penny's part), and most defenitely not funny.

The segundo half, which laid the Sheldon-as-child trope to that absurd degree, was so false and affected, however, that even the sweet moments contained were eye-roll worthy. Ah well, we still had that first half where it was revealed that both Sheldon and Penny want to remain friends, and that is wonderful. Yes, Sheldon couched it in terms of the convenience to him, but that's just Sheldon being, well, Sheldon. He cares about Penny; he cares about her in his life and despite it being about convenience for him, his actions later proved that not so much the case. He very much inconvenienced himself to spend time with Penny. Say it with me: Awww! And, on Penny's end, once again, the show is making it clear to those naysayers who claim that Penny doesn't actually care for/like Sheldon that, oh, yes, she does. She claimed firmly they were still friends. She offered to make him dinner, and when he took her up on it right away, happily went along with it. I mean, look at this smile here:(First image)
She likes him! She really likes him! :) Fine, yes, yes, I understand that this scene was setting up the 'Sheldon as child' bit with Penny making a meal for him that his mother made, but one can delusionally take that into the much mais common instance of girlfriends/wives making meals for their significant others because they're trying to recall happy memories. So there! And, honestly, delusional or not, she *did* smile happily at the notion of cooking for Sheldon and spending time with him, so it's a win for team Sheldon/Penny. Woohoo! As for the meal they shared, what I loved about it was not so much this scene itself -- although, there really was an affectionate sweetness at play --, but rather the comparison to their anterior jantar in "The Vegas Renormalization." The awkwardness, tension, inability to actually discuss anything without Sheldon insulting or Penny being annoyed is a definite contrast to their easier conversation this time around.

Talk about progress! Yeah, baby. Every little bit counts. And mais than that, the fact that such a simply-played scene, the two of them sitting around and eating, with no big physical or verbal plays of comedy, can still shine so says a lot about what exactly The Big Bang Theory has at their disposal. Oh, show, you have been handed a very rare television-gift: A potential couple played por terrific actors who shine brightest opposite one another, with outstanding chemistry and comic timing and rhythm. These two can likely play pretty much any scenario -- from slight and domesticated (such as this), to outrageous and crazy (The Adhesive pato Deficiency anyone?) -- and make it soar.
Lastly, a few mais aleatório thoughts ...
- It's a small thing, but I adored Penny's reaction to Sheldon's knocking. It's one of those little signs that she accepts, and actually gets a kick out of, his little idiosyncrasies. Furthermore, the look on her face when the third one is delayed is so precious. She looks worried for a segundo there, and then filled with almost relief when it does come. - I amor the nearly identical expressions of happiness on Penny and Sheldon's face during that dinner. Yes, yes, Sheldon's was somewhat feigned because of his overeating, but the fact that they were so similar shows that lovely symmetry, damnit!
- I have no desire to jump into detailed discussion of Leonard and Penny, but I did want to point out that Leonard's tag comment about wanting he and Penny to be friends who have sex just underscored that despite what he says (and I do think truly believes), he does not amor her. He just wants to continue to have sex with a hot girl. Period. Oh, Leonard.
- Finally, while the last scene (not counting the sleeping tag -- sorry, but I just could NOT go there) is fairly annoying from a Sheldon/Penny shipper point of view, I'd certainly recommend rewatching the first three clips in their entirety because they were WONDERFUL!
