I've heard many people blame Spike for season 7 being so weak, but Spike is and will always be my fav character. I would have been mad if he was left out of season 7 and I do not think Spike was the character who ruined season 7... I think personally it was the potential slayers. They took up so much screen time there was not enough left for the other Scoobies (Xander, Willow, etc.)!

I agree with SonofPein, the potential slayers were the big drawback in Season 7. They were so annoying and took up way too much screen time.

Yeah I've read that too. How the show went downhill after he became a regular. Which I honestly do not understand. He's the best part of the show IMO. How can you not like Spike? I think it's a minority that thinks that way.

Is it Spike that people blame for BtVS's demise, or is it Dawn? I've heard a lot more negativity towards Dawn than I have towards Spike.

He helped make it better. It was the potential slayers that made the awesome come down a notch. But it was Spike that brought it back up.

If any of the characters ruined season 7, it was those annoying potential slayers. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to slap Rona and Kennedy.

If Spike hadn't have been in season 7 I wouldn't have watched it. I don't see how people can say he ruined BtVS, when he got plently of screentime in the other seasons and they all did pretty well.
I think it was to do with the potenial slayers because I pretty much hated them by the end of the season after they kicked Buffy out and acted like total bitches. And also how the scoobies just betrayed Buffy without a second thought which kind of put a downer on the season. :/
Not to mention no show can last forever, it's got to end sometime. All good things come to an end, I don't really know what the writers could have done with the plot line anyway, there's only so much they can write before it's just repeating itself.
I think the only thing Spike did that bummed me out in season 7 is when he died because, hey, no one likes it when they're favourite character dies.

IF he ruined it... and that's a BIG IF.... its only because he died. i mean... i'm a sucker, i woulda loved to see him and anya come out alive... [wood and andrew can replace them... fine with me, hate wood, impartial about andrew] and anya and xander live happily ever after, and spike and buffy and dawn go off and be like... a little family! timing worked out in my case, because the season finale of buffy came on the same day the season premire of season 5 angel came on.. so i found out spike didn't actually die right away.... but i still woulda perered him tourtering angel a little.. and going and being with buffy forever! :D
besides him dying, i thought the finale was really good.
and buffy did love him.. maybe not enough.. but at least by touched... i really think she was in love with him. maybe even by potential ???

he made buffy what the show was he had alot of great quotes and grew along with the show whether you hated him or loved him people still watched and the fact that he came back in the angel just proved how much people loved spike and now that he is in the comics and now has is amazing.
