Not to mention, even before getting a soul Spike was super emotional, he's just easier to hurt than Angel. Besides, Angel is an unfeeling bastard. In the collective eight seasons we saw of Angel in the buffyverse, only four characters ever really got to him: Buffy, Cordy, Darla, and Connor. He was in love with two of them, he owed a large percentage of his life to the other, and the last was scowly offspring.
