Hometown Chapter Twelve
Tex's POV
Talli and I ran to my truck in the pouring rain.
"Man, it's raining hard," she said with a laugh, "correction, it's storming!"
"Yeah, no joke," I agreed.
We were quiet on the way home. The rain was coming down really hard and I was being extra careful driving.
But we finally made it back to her house in one piece.
"Thanks for the ride," she said.
"No problem! If it's storming again tomorrow you are welcome to ride with me," I said.
"That'd be great," she said smiling, "see ya tomorrow!"
"Bye, have a good night," I said.
With that Talli hopped out of the truck and took off towards the front door.
Once she was inside, I backed out of her drive way and headed to my house.
I had watched that house be empty my whole life, it was nice to finally see someone living in it. The house wasn't anything special but I hated for it to just rot away.
I got início and went into the cozinha to get a snack. I was kinda hungry. The lunches that the school served were that great or filling.
"How was school," mom asked.
"It was alright," I said, "practice got cancelled due to the storm. Oh, Talli got kicked off the team!"
"Who," she asked confused.
"Talulah Hart; they just moved back not too long ago," I said.
"Oh, that's right," she said smiling, "how come she got kicked off the team?"
"The coach kicked her off the team because she is Deaf," I said.
"He can't do that," she said, "if the people of this town figured that out, she would be back on the team in a coração beat!"
"She doesn't even care. I don't think she wanted to play anymore," I said, "she said she wasn't any good at it."
"Is that sirens," mom asked.
Any time we heard sirens around here, it was not a good thing. We are a very small town so we don't have them going off all the time.
"Yes ma'am," I said, "I wonder where they are going?"
I watched as she looked out the window.
"They stopped seguinte door," she said worried.
"At Talli's house," I asked.
"Yes," she said.
"I'm going over there," I stated, "I'll be back!"

I turned my truck off and jumped out of it. I took off running towards the front door while the key was in the ignition of my truck. I could hear the faint ding noise going off, telling me that I had left my door open and the key in the ignition.
"Talli," I yelled as I made my way through the group of people.
"Sorry Tex, you can not be in here," Officer Mark said.
"Is Talli okay," I asked as I tried to peer around him.
"She will be okay in time," he said.
"Is. She. Okay," I demanded.
"She's fine," he said.
"The why are y'all here," I asked.
"I can not release any information to you until we know more," Officer Mark stated.
"Tex, are you here" Talli asked.
"Yes, what's happened," I yelled, "Officer Mark will not let me through!"
Talli's voice sounded different.
I saw her walking towards me. She squeezed between me and Officer Mark.
"Talli, what's happened," I asked worried.
"It's my dad," she said as she started crying, "he died."
"Oh Talli," I said as I wrapped her in a hug.
I led her to the living room and we sat on the couch. She just kept crying. I didn't know what do to for her.
"I'm so sorry," I said as I run her back.
"Talulah," someone yelled.
I looked at down at Talli and she didn't even notice someone had yelled for her name. I tucked her hair behind her ear to get it out of her face and she wasn't wearing her hearing aide.
"We are in the living room," I yelled.
"Who are you talking to," Talli asked as she cried.
"Someone called your name," I said as her grandparents rushed in.
"Come here baby," her grandma said as she pulled her away from me.
It kind of startled her. She stepped back, looked at her for second, and the hugged her.
"He's gone," she sobbed.
"Hello Tex," her grandpa said to me, "where you here when everything happened?"
"No sir, I dropped her off and went home. I heard the sirens coming down the rua and looked to see where they were coming from," I stated, "I jumped in my truck and got here as fast as I could when I saw them stopped!"
"Okay, thank you for being here until we got here," he said, "you can go now."
"I would like to stay and be here for Talli," I said.
"No thank you. This is a family matter," he stated.
"Yes sir," I said surprised, "she doesn't have in her hearing aides. I believe they are still in her backpack."
"Thank you. Goodbye," he said.
I was so surprised as I left Talli's house. Her grandfather had never acted like that towards me before. He has always been nice to me. I don't understand why he acted so cold towards me. Maybe he is in shock from her dad dying.
I was in shock. I couldn't believe her dad had died or the fact the Mr. Scott had asked me to leave. I got in my truck and drove back home.
"Is everything okay," mom asked as I walked through the door.
"Talli's father died," I said.
"Oh my stars," she said, "had he been sick? I need to call the ladies from church and we will start cooking for them."
"I don't think so. She never said much about him," I stated, "The way Talli reacted, I don't think he was sick."
"That poor girl! Both her parents are gone now," mom said.
"I didn't even think about that," I said, "I asked to stay and be there for Talli but Mr. Scott told me he didn't want me to stay. He was almost rude about it."
"I'm sure he didn't mean it to be rude. He is probably in shock hisself," mom stated.
"What do you think I can do for Talli," I asked mom, "you could help me cook. Do you know what she likes?"
"No; I never paid attention to what she brought to school to eat," I stated, "but I know she likes pizza Hut."
"Okay," mom sighed, "I could do a homemade pizza and the other women could do some casseroles for Mr. Scott and Mrs. Mary."
"That sounds okay," I said.
"Okay good! Now I've get to start calling people," she said.
"Okay; I'm heading to the barn," I said, "see for dinner!"
"Okay honey, be careful," she said as she looked at her phone.
I went to my truck and looked at Talli's house. People where slowly leaving the house. I noticed her grandparents car was gone. I guess she was headed to their house for tonight and who knows how long. I wonder if she's going to still live seguinte door. I hope she would. If she doesn't, what will they do with that house? Sale it? Leave it as is?
I hopped in my truck and sat there. I wish I could be with Talli. This has to be very difficult for her. Does she even know her grandparents that well? Does she know me better than her grandparents?
