It would be a difficult battle, but I think Ace would pull it off in the end, plus, Mihawk can't exactly cut fire, can he. I'm sure he probably has attacks that are essentially energy-based, but Ace is really strong - he would have beaten Blackbeard, if he hadn't used his nullifying powers to keep Ace from using fire.

I'm surprised that this is so slanted towards Ace. Mihawk obviously has Haki and is incredibly fast, faster than Luffy could hope to manage at the time of Ace's death with Gear Second. Ace would certainly make this difficult, but we've seen Mihawk cut an entire frozen tsunami in half from a distance. I sincerely doubt that Ace could manage to take down the person currently known as the strongest swordsman alive.

ace is strong but he lacks in speed which gives mihawk an advantage as a swordsman being fast he would win
