Hoogeveen, a city in the Netherlands that loves Maya the Bee

This is a very interesting one, as requested por one of the fãs to check out this place, so here it is.

Hoogeveen is a pleasant municipality and a city in Drenthe province, Netherlands. The city has a history related to beekeeping which that explains the beehives in the city's casaco of arms.

Now back to Maya the Bee part; since 2021, there are reports of a lot of Maya signboards and statues being built around the city centre, turns out this was an action por an organisation 'Binnenstad Hoogeveen' as an ambition to be a particularly 'child-friendly' municipality and to educate about the environmental impact and efforts within the region.
In addition, they chose Maya the Bee as the official mascot of the city until 2025 and Maya's signs started appearing all over the place like at the roads entering the city, the neighbourhood streets, shopping centres and more. Some shops started selling Maya the Bee merchandises and giving out colouring books, puzzles and board games.
Occasionally, a Maya the Bee mascot will walking around to greet visitors and children and always appear at most of the events in the city.

The most funniest is, she was so famous that people kept stealing Maya' signs and hided in homes and cafés. It got so bad that the city demanded to return all the signs in exchange of a Maya the Bee merchandise.

CyNM At first I couldn't believe it, but I never thought she became that famous. In Germany, almost a whole generation grew up with her and deeply enshrined in society, thus became what the Germans called it a 'cult'.

NectariaKiritsi ^Well, that little bee was and is still very famous in so many countries including France, Poland, Spain, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Greece, Italy, Portugal and many other countries (mostly ones from Europe, but of course there are many other Maya the Bee fans who came from other continents who loves her as much as Europeans do), not just in Germany, because you know that she was declared as "the most famous bee in the world" by her home country and as "Maya Superstar" in France and that many beekeepers became beekeepers because they have watched Maya the Bee when they were kids back then and that is one of the reasons why they decided to become beekepers, lol, but by the way, great article and thank you for discovering about that too which I found it both interesting and funny how they stole some of the Maya signs before they got returned back to the right places just probably because they love her too. :P

NectariaKiritsi And also you know the lyrics of the original theme song where it says "Maya, everyone loves Maya" during the scene where she was crying, but I have seen some people who were speculating that the reason why she cried was because of that lyric part, lol! Well, I do trust those lyrics 'cause it's true that everyone loves her which is why this whole "stealing incident" happened in the Netherlands, lol. :P
