A wise chap by the name of John Lennon once sang \'another year over, a new one just begun.\' So you know what that means, don\'t ya? It\'s time for us to pretend we\'re all \'serious music journo\' and compile one of those year end lists of 2015\'s (supposed) best singles like we actually have some kinda expertise.
What we\'ve really done is just looked at our most played tunes over the past twelve months and chucked \'em in a list next to a brief explanation as to why it\'s a massive BOP. [Begin clichéd music journo talk] Oh, and WHAT a year for music it\'s been. 2015 saw the Official Chart get all snazzy and include streaming and yada-yada, blah blah.
Shall we just get down to it, then? Basically 15\'s the worst (but still well good) and 1\'s the best so BEHOLD; the best singles of 2015 according to us.
Why so brilliant? Aside from all the Harry Styles CONTROVERSY surrounding it \'Style\' is a super-slick \'80s-tinged tune with that huge, euphoric \'take me homeee\' post-chorus. Just gonna put it out there, the best on 1989 along with \'Out of the Woods\' and it should\'ve charted loads higher than it actually did.
Why so brilliant? \'Don\'t be scared \'cos I\'m your body ty-YYYYY-yyy-pe\' tbh.
Why so brilliant? Er, because it was *the* most unexpectedly-massive pop comeback of all time ever. Also we bloody love the remix featuring Tinashe which is potentially even better.
Why so brilliant? \'Cos \'Where Are Ü Now\' and \'What Do You Mean?\' had happened yet there were still some people denying their inner Belieber. Then \'Sorry\' came round and everyone was just like \'f*** it, I LOVE JUSTIN BIEBER. JUSTIN HAS ME NOW.\'
Also Justin + Skrillex always = a winner, doesn\'t it?
Why so brilliant? Because it\'s, like, really sad but also makes you really happy. One of those.
10. Pia Mia featuring Chris Brown & Tyga - \'Do It Again\'
Why so brilliant? Absolute summer smash. We loved loads of Pia\'s old stuff, but \'Do It Again\' just made us wanna sip a Slush Puppie down Skegness beach or some shit. Dead excited to see her slay in 2016, us.
Why so brilliant? Oh God it just is, innit? From the \'SHA-LA-LA-LA\' bit to the fact the lyrics essentially translate to \'he might got the biggest cock;\' it even made us dust off our mum\'s old Motown albums. Also the video was bloody hilarious/essentially summed up our entire lives.
Why so brilliant? Boys don\'t often do proper pop, but \'King\' was huge and just an unashamed banger.
Why so brilliant? Because never has one song summed up our lives so accurately. Sometimes you\'ve just gotta rise above those \'insufficient funds\' message and get on with it, y\'know?
Why so brilliant? Harry Styles saying \'rendezvous\'/all those Taylor Swift tales, basically.
Why so brilliant? It included the best use of a clock sample in pop music since Kesha\'s \'TiK ToK\' and essentially made everyone reassess whether or not they were gonna continue their lives as a Justin Bieber fan; something they\'d sworn they\'d never become. Yaaaas, Justin.
4. Selena Gomez featuring A$AP Rocky - \'Good for You\'
Why so brilliant? \'Cos it\'s sexy af, we can actually do the rap without sounding (too) ridiculous and it sounds well good with the bass boomin\'.
Yup, we just used the term \'bass boomin\'.\' Whatever.
Why so brilliant? We\'d waited frickin\' ages for new Little Mix music, and while \'Black Magic\' wasn\'t what we were expecting after the Salute album it was sort of...a gazillion times better. 2015 officially saw a proper \'80s revival and Perrie, Jesy, Leigh-Anne and Jade were at the forefront of it. This will *never* not be our jam.
Why so brilliant? \'Just an itty bitty little bit hot.\' That is all.
Why so brilliant? On July 31st 2015 Harry, Niall, Liam and Louis pulled a Beyoncé and chucked \'Drag Me Down\' down our earholes unannounced. It was obviously their first single post-Zayn Malik and, yeah, it was everything we\'d hoped it\'d be and more.
What d\'ya make of that lot, then? Any we missed? Reckon the number 1\'s well deserved? Give us a tweet over @sugarscape or drop a comment in the box below, please and a-thank you. LOVE YA.
