End of Chapter 20
"You saw your mom again didn't you?" Michael asked as he hugged me.
"Yeah, Diana and Virbius too." I said as I rested my cheek against his chest. "How did you know?"
"You went still, I knew you were sleeping but you were so still." He said, obviously I had worried him. "Then you said your mom's name once."
"Oh...I'm sorry." I said as I turned my head and looked up at him.
"It's alright, I'm glad I was here." He admitted, laughing as I yawned. "Do you want to go back to the house yet?"
"Nope." I said as I closed my eyes and rested my head against his chest. "I'd like to stay here if it's alright with you."
"Oh, it's mais then alright with me." He said softly as he got comfortable again.
I smiled, happy because he was excited that we got to spend time together. I nuzzled my head against his chest before closing my eyes, the sound of his breathing causing me to relax and soon I was asleep again.
Chapter 21
Having a horse whinnying as loud as they can is not the way I had hoped to wake up. I sat up, knowing that Piper would only do that if something was wrong. As I started to stand up I heard Michael mover behind me, his eyes blinking a few times before her remembered where he was.
"Good morning," He said, his deeper from sleep. "What's going on?"
"I'm not sure." I said as I stood up and stretched, slowly walking over to the fence.
As soon as I got close Piper ran over started pushing my back with her head. I laughed as I ran to keep up with her pushing, wondering where she was taking me. We got about half way out into the clearing when I heard people running down the hill, I looked over and saw my aunts, Dale, Elise, Celest and Maxine running down the hill. They were all yelling things but I couldn't figure out what they were saying until they got closer.
"Maija," My aunt Carol screamed as she got close enough. "House...NOW"
I looked at her for a second, wondering what the heck she was talking about, when Michael walked out the celeiro door Concho pushing him like Piper had done to me.
"Wow...pushy." He said as he came over and stood por me before he realized that everyone was looking at him.
"Michael Alexander." His mother demanded.
"Mom," He sighed. "Nothing happened, we were talking and fell asleep."
"He came to calm me down, we started talking and fell asleep...that's all." I said as I looked at all of them.
"We will discuss this later." Jan said as she smiled at me. "We have other things to worry about right now."
I was about to ask her what she was talking about when both Piper and Concho turned and blocked me from seeing whatever was upsetting them. I raised my hand and touched both of them, as I tried to mover them out of the way. Piper moved one step to the side, just enough for me to see two women walking from the other side of the clearing. I heard my aunts and everyone else climbing the fence, and within a few segundos everyone was around me and Michael, my aunts looking far from happy.
"Furies, Poena." Celest said beneath her voice, loud enough for us all to hear.
"Who?" I asked.
"Michael, get her up to the house...NOW" Dale said as he stepped forward, suddenly looking larger then he had been before.
I opened my mouth to argue but Elise looked at me and shook her head as Michael grabbed my hand and took off running, pulling me along behind him. I tried to argue, to turn and look at what was going on in the clearing but Michael tightened his grip on my hand and pulled. He opened the back door and shoved me through before I could get a word out, slamming the door closed.
"What is going on?" I yelled.
"Maija, what did your mother tell you last night?" He asked as he pulled aside one of the curtains to look out back.
"That I have other aunts and uncles, that some are good while others are not...that they might try to use me." I said quickly.
"She was right...of course. Furies and Poena...I should have guessed." He said mais to himself then to me.
"Who are they?" I asked.
Michael turned and looked at me, from the look on his face I figured that he was trying to figure out whether he should tell me or not. He said that he wouldn't keep things from me, and I was about to bring this up to him when the front door opened and my aunts walked into the house.
"You can not go anywhere alone." Jan said as she moved and hugged me.
"I wasn't alone." I said as I glared at everyone. "Michael was there."
"Yes, we will discuss that later." Carol said as she tried to look crabby but didn't quite pull it off.
"There's nothing to discuss." I grumbled.
"We'll talk about it later." Carol said, the sense of finality one that I knew not to push.
"Fine." I said as I walked over and plopped myself down on the couch.
Michael walked over and sat down seguinte to me, leaving some distance between us. I looked over at him and smiled when he did, wanting to reach over and hold his hand but knew that that was not a good idea. Just as I was thinking that his hand slid over towards mine, palm up as he waited for me to put my hand in his. I slid my hand over, wrapping my fingers with his and for some strange reason everything felt better. My concerns and anger seemed to melt away, I looked up at him to see him watching me with a strange look on his face.
"What?" I asked as I laughed.
"You're so calm now."
"Yeah, I feel better." I admitted.
"Maija, I..." He said when he was rudely interrupted por everyone else walking back into the house, their voices carrying into the living room.
"What right do they think they have to talk to her?" Celest yelled as she slammed her hands on the counter.
"Calm Celest." Elise said as she touched her shoulder.
"Thank you mother." She said as she turned and smiled.
"You will not do something like that again." Maxine said, and I assumed she was talking to Michael..but when I looked she was staring directly at me.
"What?" I asked, surprised she was talking to me.
"You were foolish to think that you would be safe. We warned you not to go alone..." She said as she shook her head.
"She wasn't alone." Michael said, wincing slightly when he realized what he said.
"Yes, I am aware of that." She growled. "Let's go, we have many things to discuss." She said as she turned and smiled at everyone before pushing him through the door.
"Maija," Jan said as she began her speech.
I knew that I should just stay here, that I should hear them out and find out what I could but the seventeen ano old in me won out as I turned and stomped up the stairs to my room, slamming the door loudly before falling on my bed.
"You saw your mom again didn't you?" Michael asked as he hugged me.
"Yeah, Diana and Virbius too." I said as I rested my cheek against his chest. "How did you know?"
