End of Chapter 37
"What do they want?" I asked as she pushed her purchases back into the bag.
"They want to know your story, and mais about what I can see...I think they want to test my ability."
"Oh, but I was really hoping to see what you bought." I said as I pulled her into my lap, a quiet scream escaping her lips.
"There'll be plenty of time for that, trust me." She said as she kissed me her hands wrapping around my neck, pulling us closer together.
I kissed her as sweet and passionately as I could until someone yelled our names from downstairs, ending any romance that was building between us. I sighed as I moved her to the side and stood up, offering her my hand to help her up. She wrapped her fingers around mine and stood up, pulling herself into my arms as she hugged me tightly. We stood there holding each other for a few minutos before someone yelled our name again, causing Alice to growl quietly.
"They're so impatient." She said as she pulled on my hand, pulling me towards the door and down the stairs to where the rest of the Cullens waited for us and our pasts.
Chapter 38
We walked down the stairs and found everyone waiting for us, a sofá sitting empty which Emmett looked at then looked at me...trying to tell me where to sit, if I couldn't figure it out.
Edward laughed, instantly covering his mouth and looking guilty. I looked over at him and thought, 'you just heard that didn't you?' A segundo later Edward smiled and nodded as he looked at me.
"What's going on?" Rosalie asked, her temper quick to anger.
"Nothing Rosalie, Jasper, Alice please have a seat." Edward said as he motioned for us to sit down.
Alice smiled as she pulled on my hand, walking over to sit on the couch. We sat down and looked around, everyone was so full of curiosity, disbelief, and Emmett was intrigued which I found slightly surprising.
"Jasper, Alice." Carlisle said as he looked at both of us. "We are all very interested with both of you, but feel like we should know something from your past...if you don't mind."
"My past," Alice said before I could say anything. "I don't remember anything from my past, I woke up one dia and this is how I was. I went around with a few groups of nomads, but I quickly realized that their way was not the life I wanted and set out on my own. I found that I could survive without hurting people, and with my...advantage I found that I could tell when another group of nomads were getting close so I could leave."
"I saw Jasper coming, and from what I had seen I knew that he was different." She said as she looked up at me and smiled. "I went into the cafe and waited for him, I wasn't sure how long but I knew he would show...or so I saw."
She was beaming at this point, telling everyone about her past...and that she had seen me coming. I leaned down and kissed her softly before looking back up and seeing everyone watch us.
"Jasper?" Esme asked.
"My past...my past was night to Alice's day. As different as any two could be, my past is what nightmares are made of." I said as soft as I could.
Edward was watching me, obviously picking my past from my thoughts. The look on his face one of horror and sadness, he looked at me...amazed I guessed.
"Yes, your past is......you are lucky you got out." He said as he shivered.
"Would you like to share with the rest of us?" Emmett asked, curious and jealous that Edward knew and he didn't.
"I was in the military, riding along when Maria found me." I said softly, wishing I didn't have to tell this story again. "They choose me because I had training, they changed me and then set me to work. Things were very different then, we were in Texas and there was a war of the covens. They choose me to train their newborns, to teach them to fight because of their strength. We had the largest number of new vampires, therefor we were the strongest. We beat everyone we came against, but Maria...the one who changed me..was not happy with just that. She wanted more, she wanted to be the ONLY coven, so she set out to kill the rest."
I paused long enough to look around, everyone surprised por my story. Emmett looked like he had a question, but wasn't sure it was ok..so I nodded and he grinned.
"Is that how you got all your...scars?" He asked, dodging Rosalie's hand as it swung to stop him from talking.
"Yes, when people wake up as vampires..they are confused and angry. Full of strength that they never had, and when you try to teach them to fight...they tried to kill me many times. These are reminders to me, reminders of my past and what I am striving to stop from happening again." I said as I ran my fingers up my arm, my other hand intertwining with Alice's hand.
"Thank you for answering my husband's rude question." Rosalie said as she smiled.
"No problem, please feel free to ask anything." I said to all of them.
"How did you get away?" Carlisle asked as he leaned progressivo, para a frente in his chair, obviously interested in my story.
"Well, I stayed longer then I should have. Maria was crazy with power, and I had heard stories of the Volturi hearing of our group. From what I had heard that was a group that I never wanted to meet. Peter, a friend of mine escaped with his wife...and I thought that was the last I would see of him, but he came back from me and snuck me out one night while they were away. They took me to their house, but I always felt like the original coven was always a few steps behind me. I had to get away...away from Peter and Charolette, away from Maria and the coven. I ran for years, keeping my head down..only killing when I had to."
"I was wondering through Philadelphia in the rain, hungry and lost in life when I found a small cafe. I was soaked to the bone and sick of people looking at me, so I ducked in and instantly I knew that there was someone of our kind in there. She bounced over to me, excited that I had shown..and from the moment I saw you, I knew." I said as I smiled down at Alice.
"You've been together since?" Rosalie asked.
"Yes, then Alice saw you all. She knew that you were like her, that you would accept us for who we are. That we could teach each other things, learn from one another....she called us a family." I said as I smiled at all of them.
"We've all talked," Carlisle said as he stood up, brushing his hands across his pants. "We would like it if you all would stay, give our family a chance."
I looked down at Alice who was watching me, her eyes pleading with me to stay, to give this a chance. I smiled at her and looked back at everyone, such a strange collection of people. But it seemed that everyone could co-exist, so why couldn't we?
"I think we'd like that very much." I said as I smiled.
"Then it's settled, welcome to the family." Esme said as she moved up and hugged us both, something that would take some time to get use to...but I was willing to try.
