Joe had been watching this whole thing from his hotel room. He had his door slightly open.
"No, that's not crazy, what's crazy is why you would do this. I can't even trust you anymore." She said with tears in her eyes.
She looked into his eyes, trying to get him to realize how much he'd hurt her. "Yeah, whatever. I've got a girlfriend that I need to go see." He started walking away as if nothing had happened.
"Sterling wait!" She grabbed his arm, trying to pull him back, knowing it was possible that she could get him back and they could work things out. Sterling violently pushed her off, knocking her to the ground. Joe didn't care if they would know he was watching; he immediately got out to protect Demi. He dropped right beside her. She looked crushed, she really liked Sterling. She didn't know why it had to end like this, and she blamed herself for not seeing this.
"Dem, are you alright?" She blinked back tears and shook her head.
"No, not at all." Joe couldn't expect her to feel good after the way she'd been treated por her 'boyfriend'. She felt like her world was ending. Joe got up and extended his hand to her, gesturing that he'd help her up. She paused for a moment, like she wasn't sure she should trust him; she figured that she was just being paranoid and took his hand. That's when she decided that she had no reason not to trust him.
She quickly fell into his arms. He didn't mind it. Although he knew he shouldn't, he actually enjoyed it.
Demi had been trying not to cry this whole time.
She felt slightly mad at herself for letting the tears fall, yet it felt good. She got to be completely honest with herself this way. "Sorry" She said, backing up slightly from Joe. She tried wiping the tears out of her eyes, but there was no way she would stop crying.
"Dem, come here. It's fine, you're allowed to cry. You have every right to." Demi let herself fall back into his embrace. "I promise I'll always be here for you." Demi couldn't believe that she was feeling what she was. But she felt safe.
Joe was going to enjoy the time he had with Demi. He obviously cared about her mais than her 'boyfriend' did. Joe was mad at Sterling, yet if he wasn't so heartless and violent he wouldn't be holding Demi this close. And if Sterling had a brain he'd still be with her. How anyone could treat Demi the way Sterling had just treated her was a mystery to Joe. He sort of felt guilty for not being able to forgive Sterling.
Maybe, just maybe... this was the best thing that had ever happened to them.
Joe hated seeing Demi cry, but he could feel good with knowing that he was becoming a fonte of comfort to her.
He loved that she trusted him.
He loved how close he got to hold her.
Somehow Demi got herself to stop crying.
Demi probably wouldn't have been so hurt if she didn't have future plans for her and Sterling, if she hadn't been planning their lives together already. She sighed and escaped Joe's gentle grasp although she didn't want to. She felt so weak and powerless that she was shocked that she could stand without his support.
She was almost afraid of letting go of his hand. So she didn't dare to. "I know, I probably look horrible." She said wiping the tears out of her eyes.
"No, you look beautiful as always." He always knew just the right thing to say.
Demi didn't know how she could feel like she had nothing even though she had everything. But that's how she felt.
"Thanks Joe, for being here for me."
"It's no problem at all, do you really think I would just stand there and watch while my best friend was being pushed around?"
"No, you're way too sweet to do something like that. And I'm really glad you were listening in on our conversation."
Demi didn't know how, but she felt mais powerful than she did segundos ago. "Yeah, I am too" Joe's words brought a smile to her face, a real smile.
She knew no other way of expressing her feelings so she hugged Joe. Joe, in turn, kissed her cheek. Demi was kind of surprised that Joe would do that. She didn't consider it any mais than that.
"Just so you know, you're my best friend too."
They had a real moment there, it meant everything to Joe, yet to Demi it was only a cute friendship moment. The important thing is that to both of them, it truly meant something. "Well, it's one in the morning so we should probably get to bed." Demi was pulled back into reality por the truth of Joe's words. It was weird that she had to be 'pulled back into reality', but she blamed it on being tired.
