I'm writting this because I want to put some light about this topic. Sorry for my english ^^.

First at all, What's Huntington?

Huntington's Disease , also know as Huntington's Corea" or "Mal de Zambito" in spanish, is a neurodegenerative illness.Huntington’s disease is a genetic autosomal dominant progressive neurodegenerative disorder determined
por mutation at the gene that codes for the protein huntingtin, whose function is unknown. Clinically hallmarked por chorea
and behavioral disturbances, the diagnosis is confirmed por blood test for the disease’s gene

From link:

This degeneration causes uncontrolled movements, loss of intellectual faculties, and emotional disturbance. HD is a familial disease, passed from parent to child through a mutation in the normal gene. Each child of an HD parent has a 50-50 chance of inheriting the HD gene. If a child does not inherit the HD gene, he or she will not develop the disease and cannot pass it to subsequent generations.
A person who inherits the HD gene will sooner or later develop the disease.

Presymptomic testing is available for individuals who are at risk for carrying the HD gene. In 1 to 3 percent of individuals with HD, no family history of HD can be found.

What causes the illness?:

The disease is caused por an expansion at the Trio C-A-G (Citosina - Adenina - Guanina) at the cromosome 4 (This crosome includes parkinson's disease and narcolepsia). A person with Huntington's has between 36 to 90 or mais repetitions. That repetitions produces a protein called Huntinin (Htt.), wich funcion is unknow.
Generally, the number of CAG repeats is related to the rate that these neurons die, affecting the age at onset and progression of symptoms.

What's about the test? From: link

A negative blood test means that the individual does not carry the expanded copy of the gene, will never develop symptoms, and cannot pass it on to children. A positive blood test means that the individual does carry the expanded copy of the gene, will develop the disease, and has a 50% chance of passing it on to children. A pre-symptomatic positive blood test is not considered a diagnosis, because it may be decades before onset.

Is there any treatment?

There is no treatment to fully arrest the progression of the disease, but symptoms can be reduced or alleviated through the use of medication and care methods. Huntington mice modelos exposed to better husbandry techniques, especially better access to comida and water, lived much longer than mice that were not well cared for.
Other standard treatments to alleviate emotional symptoms include the use of antidepressants and sedatives, with antipsychotics (in low doses) for psychotic symptoms.

Another Data From link

The actual treatments for Huntington's are focus on the metabolism of the illness. Tocoferol & another drugs like Litium or Ginkgobiloba extract could help to stop the progression of the illness.

I'm not trying to say that Thirteen is inmortal, I'm just trying to give some data about the illness cause I saw things that may cause confusion or something. I wish you enjoyed this article.

It all depends on David Shore. If He want to do something, he will do it. Enjoy the spoilers!

Hope for the Hopelles and Vicodin for everyone!

Cheers ^^
