Jenna4093 I feel like she seemed to care more for Harry, princecatcher93 and zanhar1, is because of how he isn't _technically_ family. I don't know about you guys, but where I live, it's normal to be softer on somebody else's child than your own. So if he's shouting at Ron and being nice to Harry, it's just because of the fact that she gave birth to Ron and raised him for years. She met Harry (officially, as in the Burrow) when he was 12. I've known one of my closest friends for 7 years now, and her mother would almost always be softer on me than on her. So I feel like that's the reason why. Oh, and I don't remember her caring more for Harry than for her other children. If anything, she was freaking out over how they didn't show up yet. She was calm, but only acted that way. About the Molly nagging her children all the time one, I'll just comeback on the examples. Ron pulled a _very_ idiotic move. He could have easily just went and asked for help, but he chose to fly a car that could have done severe damage to his father's job. A howler, I feel, isn't that bad once you look at how many more cons than pros there are to flying a car. To the Fred and George one, it's just a bit of irritation, not serious punishment. She got over it very easily afterwords. For Wizard Wheezes, I'd probably feel the same. Here in my country, if you did something like that, they would not accept it. If your from a Western country, then you'd probably be more for it, because it's a bit more normal there I think (never been to the U.S., even though I go to a school where Americans come to). To waste your education on something that could have very easily flopped? Remember, she got used to it after knowing it was a success, even though she still felt a bit annoyed. Anyway, that's just my point of view of Molly. I do not mean to be rude in any way, just giving my opinion. I decided not to talk about Bellatrix, since that one would also be discussing the point of view of Bellatrix, and considering how much you love her, it would be a very long discussion :P

But when it comes down to protecting your kids vs one that's not your own (yes it's natural to want to help the other kid) but motherly instincts should kick in and tell you to prioritize your own. Molly was so into protecting Harry that she let George lose an ear. I also get why she would yell at Ron, but she didn't have to make a public spectacle of him. I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I just have a different outlook on the situation. Ron wasn't my prime exsample, because, yes I do agree that his actions required a degree of yelling, just not in front of the entire school like that. Yes but she was still nagging at them. Of course she got over it, all parents do. But (maybe this was just how I was bought up) my mom never yelled at me for randomly appearing behind her. She would get startled and laugh it off. My point is, Molly's first instinct seemed to be nag or yell. I'm from a the U.S, it pretty much is more normal her. But we're talking a whole different magical demension! And I don't recall it being mentioned that the Twins' grades were slipping. And the business world is all about taking risks, it can flop or succeed, that's how it works (at least in America) one just needs a good backup plan, a way to get back on their feet should all else fail. I understand, you have just as much a right to speak your mind as I do. Besides I enjoy a good debate (so long as it doesn't get out of hand). :P Yeah, that discussion never would have ended, ever lol.

rhythmicmagic Alright, on the way she treated Harry vs. her kids. First of all is the point Jenna made that people tend not to be as hard on others' children. Also, her motherly instincts were kicking in to protect Harry, seeing as he had no family and was treated badly by the Dursleys. She was extra nice to him in order to try and give him what he never got at Number 4- it's like a headcannon I once read about how she always gave Teddy extra helpings of everything because of when Lupin said that the rest of the Order wouldn't let Ron and Ginny starve. When she got angry with the twins in the fifth book, I don't know if you've read the books, but in the book it was far more than apparating. First of all, she was under a ton of stress as it was- Percy had walked out on them, they were all part of an underground organization the Ministry was opposed to so Arthur's position was also in jeopardy, and it was also an organization opposing the most evil and dangerous wizard of all time. Second of all, they did more than apparate. When setting the table on Harry's first night at Number 12, they enchanted a knife to fly that almost stabbed Sirius. They enchanted trunks to fly and almost knocked out Ginny. And she never really did anything to punish them, she just yelled and got annoyed with them. Also, about Weasley's Wizard Wheezes, that really isn't all that uncommon. It's a trope in tons of media for the parent to want their child to be something high profile and high paying (like a doctor or lawyer) and them they want to do something else (like performing or being an artist) and then that leads to domestic stress. Also, as to their grades, they got half the number of OWLs as Ron even though they were more intelligent. Now, when it comes to The Seven Potters and George losing his ear, notice that Ginny didn't go. All of her other children besides Ginny were legal adults, and Fred and George didn't even live with her anymore, so she really couldn't stop them. The only one who went she could have done anything to stop was Ron, and again, he was a legal adult, as well as Harry's best friend. If she really was willing to let her children be hurt or killed instead of Harry, she would have let the twins join the Order when it was formed before they left school and Harry would have been dead in her Boggart.

zanhar1 With that I'm saying that while yes she should have instinct to save Harry, she should have prioritized and put her children first. I'm not saying she shouldn't be nice to Harry or give him a taste of the life he deserved. I'm saying; Rowling was trying to paint her out has the mom who loved her child to death and such but (and Rowling is an amazing author) she almost directed that motherly instinct towards Harry, not her [i]own[/i] kids. The knife thing is understandable. The Trunk thing as well. But the yelling about the teleporting well, that was over reacting. It's also a trope in media parents that is portrayed in a more negative light. Kids have run away or rebeled due in part to the lack of support. Bringing Once Upon A Time into this; Regina Mills did not want to become royalty but her mom wanted her too. Regina was content just being the wife of a stable boy. While this did not happen in HP it ultimately lead to Regina becoming the Evil Queen. It is also a personal preference of mine; my parents raised me in an accepting environment, one where they pushed me to follow my dreams even if they weren't sure how it would work for me. And they assured me they'd be ready to help if all else failed. I don't like fictional parents that try to force certian fates upon their kids or try to push them away from their goals. As for the grades; I may be over-analyzing but perhaps they are not good test takers. I don't think Rowling said one way or another. 7 Potters: But she did have a say did she not? She could have talked them out of that, she never hesitated to be more hard on them or nag them before. She could have begged them to stay with her.

Alchemistlover I like Molly but you have some points. She does nag a bit but there are times i find it funny. I also don't think it was rude of her to call Bellatrix a bitch because she is she doesn't care about what she's doing she just kills. Sorry if we disagree with somethings but good article anyway!

Also, I agree with both Jenna4093 and rhythmicmagic. I don't know why Molly is a horrible character for being a nag, but Bellatrix is a great character for being a murderer. Also, so what if she judges Fleur from a surface level? My aunt and uncle are like that towards my cousin's wife.

Samcir13233 I can forgive all that Molly did except one thing... How she treated Sirius. That was absolutely unacceptable and damn near unforgivable, she made him miserable, she tried to act like she was Harry's authority when Harry clearly chose Sirius, she basically told Sirius that he didn't give a damn about Harry because he wasn't there neglecting the fact that Sirius was IN PRISON for 12 years for a crime he did not commit and I believe that Sirius could have broken out of Askaban many times but stayed because he blamed himself for the death of Lily and James but when he saw that Peter was around Harry he got out as fast as he could to come and protect Harry. Sirius did everything he possibly could for harry, he came to Hogsmead a few times having to live on rats and other foul things and be homeless just to be close to Harry to keep him safe. Sirius loved Harry as a son and did everything in his power to help him and keep him safe and ABOVE ALL Sirius TOLD HARRY THE TRUTH! Molly was so arrogant and foolish that she kept the truth away from Harry even though Harry had faced Voldemort multiple times. If Molly had been in any of the situations Harry was in concerning Voldemort she would have been dead 10 times over yet she treats Harry like he is a defenseless boy incapable of reason and incapable of self reliance especially in the face of danger. Sirius saw Harry for who he was, loved Harry for who he was not who he thought Harry should be. When Molly basically told Sirius that he was a bad parent/' God father every ounce of respect and forgiveness I had for her character went out the window. I bet when Sirius died Molly was happy, she never talked to Harry about it nor did she comfort Harry at all after Sirius died, it was like "Oh well Harry just lost his worthless God father but that doesn't matter because I am basically like his mother anyways, so what good was he?". Every single person in her immediate family is oppressed by her. She was constantly comparing her children to one another like the twins to Percy which really pissed me off. YOU DO NOT COMPARE YOUR CHILDREN!! That is a bad and terrible thing to do if you are a parent. You are to love your children for who they are, encourage them to be who they are not model them into who you want them to be, you are not their God and they are not your subjects they are your children. Her oppression against Fred and George made me extremely mad, all the work they put into Weasley's Wizard Weases and she destroys their inventions and burns their order forms... unacceptable. But when they start racking in the Galleons then shes all cool with it. How Molly treats Arthur pisses me off too. She doesn't allow him to have his own hobbies, he likely only works in the ministry of magic because of her presumptuous attitude to his own hearts wants. I think if Arthur had a choice to choose a line of work it would have been something to do with Muggles rather than the blasted Ministry of Magic. Arthur is clearly not the authority or man of the house as he should be, she has taken his authority and his place over the children. She is not submissive to Arthur at all in fact Arthur is submissive unto her, it is abominable. Remember when Arthur gets attacked by the snake and hes in Saint Mungo's and Arthur and his doctor decide to try stitches because magical cures were ineffective at treating the nasty venom from Nagini? Molly layed into Arthur basically telling him that he has not right to choose what to do with his own body and how dare he use muggle remedies unless she approves it. And Molly isn't the only one guilty of this one but she enforced it the hardest in the Order of the Pheonix at the Headquarters when they kept the children ESPECIALLY Harry ignorant of what they were doing and what Voldemort was doing. They should have learned by then that keeping Harry informed is the best way to protect him. They wouldn't have even known that Voldemort was back were it not for Harry for Gods sake! Yet they keep him in the dark when he was in more danger than any of them, keeping him in the darkness of ignorance makes him that much more likely to die as the result of that ignorance. Harry is safest when he is informed, that is a clear and true pattern in the books, he always is in the most danger when he is ignorant of the danger and the specifics of that danger. For instance if Harry would have known in the Order of the Pheonix that Voldemort was after the prophecy in the Hall of Prophecies and if Dumbledore had told Harry that Voldemort might possess him he would have been prepared to see things like the false vision of the capture of Sirius that Voldemort placed in his mind, he would not have gone to the ministry of magic and Sirius would not have died as a result. One of the worst things that happened to Harry was the death of Sirius which was a direct result of him being kept in ignorance... And while this is mainly Dumbledore's fault I still am extremely angry at Molly for her treatment of Sirius, for her enforcement of Harrys ignorance. And when Sirius decided that it would be best for Harry to know at least some of the truth she tried to counter his decision acting like she has authority of Harry. James gave authority over Harry to Sirius not Molly, she has no respect for James nor Sirius nor anyone else for that matter in my opinion, regardless of reason and logic which she should have obtained long ago she continues in her error acting as if it is truth. Molly should have known in Deathly Hallows that keeping Harry in the dark or preventing him from strategizing with Hermoine and Ron would be not only detrimental to his survival odds but would only lessen his respect for her. Molly is a Narcissist, a hypocrite and a fool and I really do not like her, though she doesn't act like the Dursley's she ironically did more harm to Harry then they ever could have.

keiranscott Don't forget how she treated Sirius. I mean yes she meant well but Sirius is Harry's godfather lily and James chose him for a reason. The only other person who should be able to decide whether or not harry should know something besides Sirius is Remus. And maybe Tonks because she and harry were tight and harry would deselect her opinion which would probably be the same as Remus and Sirius. Every time I think of what she did to Sirius I just... ARGHH!! he spent twelve years in hell and dumbledore forces him to stay in the house where he grew up abused and just I can't anymore...

elsafan1010 Molly Weasley is a character I like and you have some right points but here are my responses for your points. 1- She killed Bellatrix because Bellatrix was about to kill Ginny and that word "bitch" came out as an angry response not to touch Ginny meanwhile look she's protective over her children! Btw not a Ginny fan but still. 2- The thing that she cares about anyone more than her kids especially Harry isn't true. As I experienced it, moms don't yell to other children that aren't theirs because they have no right and instead they judge their own children's behaviours and want the friends to learn from it. 3- She didn't want Fred and George to run their business and this is normal because as a motherly worried woman, she wanted to give her own lead to her kids as they're growing up if you're understanding. 4- About Fleur, yeah shouldn't have judged so quick but as a protective mother which isn't what you think, she wanted to know if Fleur was a good wife and a good mom for their future children and I believe she apologized or and felt bad? All the love from here~ Hermione, Harry and Snape are my favs but just wanna defend Molly. <3
