This episode is based on “The Master Thief”, a fairly short story (at least the Grimm version is short), so it’s not really surprising that the list of references will be brief this time around. To be truthful, I’m surprised that I even came up with any.

Reference Rundown

3. I’m sure that Rhinebeck was only chosen as a location because of the „Rhine“ in the name, hinting to one of the most important rivers...

Before we start, here an explanation how I put together the list: I went through my reviews from the first season and took a look at the “key-rating” I gave each of them. Then I listed all episodes, which had at least a rating of nine keys, and came up with eight episodes which scored that high. Naturally, one of them didn’t make the cut (Love Sick, in case you are interested), the others were put in order. And here they, my topo, início seven Grimm-episodes of season one. I really don’t see the point of a Reference Rundown. While the quote is from “Hans, mein Igel”, the plot had absolute nothing to do with it - even if they try on the NBC website to draw a feeble connections, which shows a terrible lack of understanding of the tale, which is actually (similar to Beauty and the Beast) about not judging based on outer appearance. The episode is mais a mixture out of “Big Foot” and “Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hide”, and I frankly don’t get why they weren’t straightforward and took a quote related to either of them.
