Grace VanderWaal Drops Perfect Summer Song, 'Moonlight'
Grace VanderWaal performs at WE Day 2017 at Allstate Arena on March 1, 2017 in Rosemont, Ill.
\'America\'s Got Talent\' winner displays maturity on a new tune.
Simon Cowell pegged her as the potential next Taylor Swift. And, judging by Grace VanderWaal's summery new song, "Moonlight," the 13 year-old 2016
winner is definitely growing by leaps and bounds before our eyes. On the heels of her debut EP,
faves as "I Don't Know My Name" and "Beautiful Thing," the ukulele-strumming teen digs deeper on the Zmishlany-produced track with a tropical beat.
"She always has a smile/ From morning to the night/ The perfect poster child/ That was once in my life," she sings in her signature raspy voice over gentle strumming before a finger-snapping rhythm and angelic chorus sneak in. The music builds in intensity on the chorus, where an assured VanderWaal digs in, "Remember last year when you told me/ To always stay here and never leave me/ The light from your eyes made it feel like/ We, we're dancing in the moonlight."
The song is available now on all digital platform and VanderWaal will perform it as part of a 90-minute live stream set on Wednesday's (June 21) VidCon #YouTubeOnStage event starting 10 p.m. ET. "'Moonlight’ is about somebody you know very well changing unnaturally over time right in front of you and pushing you away, so you want to help bring them back to their original self,” VanderWaal says in a statement announcing the tune.
Earlier this year, VanderWaal signed with Los Angeles management firm TH3RD BRAIN, whose artist roster includes Gallant, Krewella and ZHU.
"To be writing and performing music of this caliber at any age is remarkable," says TH3RD BRAIN founder Jake Udell. "Grace is a transcendent talent, and we are honored to have this opportunity at TH3RD BRAIN to share her powerful voice and vision with the world."
