Now i'm what I would like to call an average guy. I also like to think that I'm open minded and willing to hear any argument as long as that argument is backed up with cold hard facts.
Now as a guy i personally don't have any experience of any of the issues normally expressed por the feminist movement so my thoughts and opinions are always formed from segundo hand or third hand experience (reading articles, watching YouTube vídeos etc.)
Now i'm sure some of you are asking yourself why are you asking this? Well the answer is as follows.
Two week atrás i was taking part in a community discussion at my local biblioteca that was about 'Ways in which the government can help the community'
About half way throw the discussion I perhaps foolishly said something that I personally thought was an innocent and legitament statement. What I said was exactly what follows.
'I believe that since girls in education have either caught up or began to out perform their male counterparts that the government needs to start shifting the percentage of funds designed to help girls in education, so instead it helps everyone in education since it is now in fact the boys who are starting to need that help.'
Immediately upon saying this I hear a disapproving tut from across the room and I see a woman looking at me like i just said something insulting.
When the initial thought process was out of the way the discussion leader said to get into groups or pairs or whatever to discuss the point brought up. When the woman approached me about my earlier point i was mais than willing to argue my position and point out the reasons why i believe what i believe. when i did so she seemed to be getting very defensive and when it was obvious that her arguments weren't bring me around to her way of thinking she said and i quote that i was a
'small close minded guy who was trying to undo the good work of the feminist movement por wanting all the resources spent of guys. Its that sort of thinking por anti-feminists like you that make this world a bad place.'
I left astonished that someone would consider me anti-feminist simply because i suggested that boys might need help mais than girls do. Over the last two week this has started to really bother me so can a feminist please tell me if what i said is really anti feminist or was this woman just an extreme member?
p.s i would like to apologize in advance for any of my most likely spelling or grammar mistakes. In my defense I am composição literária this on my mobile phone.
