All ten Krots turned. The one with the giant buzzsaw- she guessed he was the leader- blinked his three eyes at her and growled, “The child has come!”
Eight of the Krots bowed to her.. One, the one standing at the Doctor;s head, cleared his throat- at least, he cleared what looked like his throat and gestured towards the Doctor. “Um, brain dissection?”
“Oh right.” The head Krot turned around. Growing desperate, Abby said, “It won't help, you know.”
All ten Krots turned to stare at her. “What won't help?” one of them asked nervously.
“Dissecting my dad's brain. You won't get anything.” Abby yawned. “Now, if you asked for the information you want nicely...”
“We don't do nice!” the doctor Krot said angrily.
“Hold on, she may have a point.” one of the others said. “Doing a brain dissection would bring us nowhere. We cannot filter the information from the man's head that way.”
“Exactly!” Abby said, nodding. “There is another problem. He doesn't have half the information I was born with, and there is so much mais I can process.”
“What exactly are you suggesting?” the lead Krot asked, lowering the buzzsaw.
“I'll make you a deal. Krot's like compromises, right?” The alien nodded and Abby continued. “You give me the Doctor, and I'll come back every six Trokian months with new information.” She heard a gasp from behind her and knew that her mother had been watching the whole exchange.
“How do we know we can trust that?” the doctor Krot asked sceptically.
“Does this face make you think I would be lying?” Abby asked, putting on her best innocent face.
“Yes.” they chorused.
“All right. I'm his daughter. I say what I mean. And I mean, six Trokian... er... how long is a Trokian month?”
“Two Earth weeks.”
“And an Trokian dia is...”
“24 hours.” the head Krot proudly proclaimed.
“All right! Well, then I will return every six months to give you mais information from our travels.” Abby grinned. Inside, she was nervous. Her first interspecies negotiations seemed to be going well, but she was against Krots, who tended to make a decision and stick with it.
“Deal.” the head Krot proclaimed. Abby breathed a sigh of relief.
The doctor Krot narrowed his eyes. “Give me that!”
Oh no. Evidence of exactly what Abby'd been thinking about.
As the Krot raised the buzzsaw, Abby flicked the settings on her sonic screwdriver. “Excuse me? I'm sorry, but that was probably the worst decision you could possibly make.”
“And why is that?” the Krot sneered.
“I'm not afraid to kill to ensure my family's safety.” Abby aimed and pressed the button. The Krot exploded in a flash.
She turned to face the other nine Krots, expecting anger, but instead the head Krot looked at her with some amusement. “We are dreadfully sorry. He does like his brain dissections. He's dead anyhow. You must give us some information now.”
“The TARDIS took care of that.” Amy called, returning with a rolled up piece of pare. “Don't unroll it here, we'll drown in a sea of paper.” Abby laughed.
“What about the Doctor?”
“Oh! Right, I'd forgotten. I apologise again.” The Krot stepped aside and Amy ran to unstrap the Doctor. Rose and Rory opened the doors wider so Amy could help the unconscious Doctor inside.
“And don't worry about my end of our bargain. The TARDIS will remind me to come back. If I'm late, it's probably because I needed to save my family from giant bog monsters or something. See you in six months!” Abby cheerfully shut the doors. That worked better than she'd thought.
