Dragons have ways of finding out whether you're lying or not. Also, most humans have a deep distrust of magic. If you told a few friends, they'd tell the government, which would then capture the dragon and experiment on it. Such an action would cause all draons to have an undying hatred of you. If that wrre to happen, they woud try to kill you.
