She pretty much confesed it by saying "In my day we had fantastical feasts, when I lived in the palace" which means she lived in the castle and I believe that makes her Triton's sister. I guess after she was banished she was turned into an octopus lady. I think when she was a mermaid she looked like Vanessa and probably had a better voice.

no seriously, i think she was the same, octopus i mean, and went bad with her magic in the palace and got banished.
her transformation into an octopus for no reason doesn't seem convincing.

To be honest, I don't know. I don't consider the Broadway canon, really...I always assumed she was his assistant before Sebastian took over her position.

I always figured she was an advisor, or something. But I don't think the are related.

I don't know. The storywriters did intend on making her Triton's sister in the movie but I don't think that's how it ended up in the movie.

SHE IS Triton's sister. John and Ron wanted the audience to figure it out for themselves. THAT IS WHY Disney on Broadway allowed the storyline, they are allowed to recycle or put in plots or songs that the certain movie did not too make it longer. Otherwise the line " We had fantastical feasts when I lived in the palace" makes no sense, and Sebastian has always been King Triton's majordomo.
Another example of Disney on Broadway recycling plots and or songs: Aladdin has Proud of your Boy a popular song Howard wrote that was cut...and Call Me a Princess too, but that was only in the Seattle Production. Broadway cut it.
