I've definitely met plenty of overly-critical people online and they've annoyed the hell out of me to the point where I've wanted to just go off on them and call them out on their crap! However, I try not to go off on them unless they push me far enough, which has happened. Being critical is one thing, especially since critical responses can be a good way to help someone improve at a certain thing, but there is definitely a line between constructive criticism and b*tching, whining, moaning, and being too nitpicky.

Once again DO NOT give any names on who the person is and don't even mention the name of the website they came from. I made this poll so people can be able to get out any tension they're having with something like this, but I don't want any wars going on by basically calling someone out. Let's all try to be mature about this. Please and thank you!

I always go off on people on the internet who deserve it. If they are being needlessly critical, belligerent, annoying and a general impediment on the intelligent conversation and friendly atmosphere of a site then they certainly have it coming.

I've received overt threats to kill me online...because people did not like my opinions. Then there were the direct insult variety, which claimed that I was too unintelligent to make distinctions. But going off on them did nothing. And defending myself against their personal attacks has only made these kinds of lurkers angrier.

It's a zero sum game.

more than bugging me, it amuses me. So I say my point and leave them be

Oh so many of them! Actually, lately I've been trying NOT to respond, there's no point in arguing with people like that, they only get on my nerves.

Nothing that causes me actual distress or anger or anything. It helps knowing that like 90% of the negativity comes from either trolls who thrive on negative attention (and showing them you're upset plays right into their hands) or grossly misinformed people who believe in things that are so stupid that it's actually funny.

I've found that the few critical people who have legit things to say are great to learn from, or a good chance to sharpen debate skills.
