It only worked because it was Bernadette Peters playing the stepmother and, therefore, they had to give her a song. "Falling in Love with Love" wasn't even originally from Rodgers' and Hammerstein's version of Cinderella; they had to pull it from a different composition because it sort of worked. It's the same story with "The Sweetest Sounds" and the song the godmother sings at the end, "There's Music in You".

^ I'm aware of that. I've watched the Julie Andrews version and the Leslie Ann Warren version. I love that they added those three songs. Though ironically in Enchanted they had a famous broadway powerhouse like Idina Menzel in the movie and they didn't give her a song lol.
