I think her biggest flaws are insecurity and anxiety.

more of "informed flaws" though. we're supposed to see the 'flaws' as cute, not bad or wrong. but Belle was not intended to have any at all so I have to go with Punz.

^Exactly that. The screenwriter of BatB even wrote in the strand of hair that kept falling into Belle's face as showing that she's not perfect. A strand of hair was Belle's only excuse for a flaw (well, an intended one).

Tangled was more manipulative in trying to convince us that Rapunzel was flawed and relatable, especially with Mother Knows Best. People seem to buy all of her cop-out flaws as her being heavily flawed.

PrincessGatsby picked Belle.:
I hadn't seen Beauty and the Beast in a long time, but I'd watched Tangled fairly recently.

For me, the beauty of Belle's character was that she was flawed and we can clearly see the consequences of her flaws and mistakes despite the movie's attempts to showcase Belle as a superior, near-perfect young woman. The character Belle herself is very flawed.

- Belle is snobbish. It is evident that Belle believes she's better than everybody in her town (and even the people in the beast's castle) because unlike the others, Belle believes that there is more to life than what she and the others know. She wants to share her interests with others, but she has no interest in learning about others' views.
- That said, she also doesn't try to understand the point of views of the people in her town. She believes that she is above them because she believes that there is more to her "provincial life," but she fails to understand that the townspeople are trying to earn a living.
- Belle doesn't have a job. She spends her days reading, dreaming, wondering around town and entertaining herself. She lives in a nice house (much better than those of the other townspeople) and yet she doesn't seem to realize that her life is far more comfortable than others (she mocks the people in her town for doing the same things everyday, but they're actually *trying* to earn a living and they don't seem to be nearly as entitled as Belle is). She is actually pretty lazy.
- Belle is condescending. She talks down to Gaston and the beast, and this links to her snobbishness and arrogance.
- She is rather cocky, especially with regards to her intelligence and imagination. In fact, she seems to overestimate her own intelligent. She behaves as if she's smarter than everybody else she interacts with, but she isn't nearly as smart as she thinks she is.
- Belle is fairly dishonest and manipulative. She clearly has no problem speaking her mind, and yet she still blatantly lies to Gaston in order to get him out of her house. She also tricks Cogsworth (I think) in order to get a chance to explore the West Wing.
- Belle doesn't have much respect for others' privacy, as seen when she goes into the West Wing.
- She is also inquisitive to a fault.
- Her curiosity and lack of respect for others overall links to her being selfish at times. She enters the West Wing in order to entertain herself, not caring about how the beast may feel about this.
- Belle makes reckless and illogical decisions, and she doesn't often consider the consequences of her actions (the West Wing, fleeing the castle, showing the beast to the townspeople). She allows her emotions of the moment to cloud her logical judgment.
- She's actually very illogical, taking a lot of what I've said into consideration.
- Belle's stubbornness and pride causes her to refuse to accept blame. When she argues with the beast after the West Wing incident, she blames the beast for what had happened without admitting that it is even *slightly* her fault.
- Belle does not share her feelings for the beast with him until it is too late. She loved him, but she didn't tell him, and she didn't have much of a reason to keep these feelings to herself. She also knew that it could have helped his self-esteem if she'd told him that she loved him sooner.
- Overall, Belle doesn't have much respect for other people, especially those who don't share the same values as her, despite being polite.

Rapunzel's flaws, on the other hand, are completely excusable.

- She is meant to be clumsy. In Mother Knows Best, Gothel calls her clumsy and causes her to trip over her own hair. Her "clumsiness" is never shown nor mentioned after this.
- She is seen as immature, when she actually carries herself with a lot of maturity. She's more childlike than anything.
- Rapunzel is naïve. Not only is she still intelligent, resourceful and adaptable, which makes up for this flaw, but her naïveté is also understandable due to her being sheltered all her life.
- She is slightly anxious around new people, but she quickly adapts to the situation and overcomes her anxiety within minutes. It is also excusable for the same reason as most of her flaws - she's been trapped in a tower all her life.
- She is insecure, but this is not so much a character flaw as it is an emotion. Her insecurity is a result of Gothel's manipulation, and she proves that she really has nothing to be insecure about due to her being perfectly capable of taking care of herself.
- Some people consider her to be shy, but she becomes anxious for about a minute before becoming confident and charming.
- She is indecisive and temperamental when she first leaves the tower, but this is because she feels conflicted about following her mother's rules (which is good) and following her dreams (which is also good).
- Rapunzel blackmails Flynn into helping her and knocks him unconscious several times, which is really just her taking care of herself. A strange man - a thief nonetheless - has entered her tower and not only does she have to be cautious about what he might do to her, but she also has to be cautious about leaving the tower and venturing out into the world. She's got something on Flynn - she has his precious satchel, and she uses this to take care of herself because she knows that she would be safer if she has somebody to guide her.

Rapunzel undergoes character development, while Belle doesn't, although Rapunzel's development is not very believable, and is rather rushed. Both girls have flaws, although Rapunzel's flaws are excusable and as results of circumstances. We can't make excuses for Belle's flaws, and this is what makes her the more flawed character.

Silverrose1991 picked Rapunzel.:
Both are flawed, but Rapunzel more so. She's naïve, optimistic to the point of lying to herself ("C'mo, Pascal. It's not so bad in here"), fatalistic, insecure yet cocky, competitive, emotionally manipulative, a blackmailer...

So what if her flaws are a result of her upbringing and circumstances? Yes, of course they are, as are the flaws of every single person in the world :/

Both have flaws. But I picked Rapunzel because she does do things that put her life in danger like trusting a wanted thief/stranger to take you out (although threatening him with a frying pan works).
I know Belle has some flaws (like being snobby or keeping things to herself or risking Beast's safety to save her dad from asylum and herself from marrying Gaston) but the movie acts as if she doesn't have problems.
