A few days ago one of my close friends(who is Native) was having a massive rant about Pocahontas's redesign. She pointed out a lot of things that made Pocahontas' new design offensive, and how she thought it reinforced the already offensive stereotype of the "Indian Princess." (her words) She said the Forever 21 Tribal jewelry was horrible, the glass beads were the opposite of cultural, and the gold everything was just distasteful. After doing some research, I have to agree with most of her complaints. In her words, "If they're going to enforce these stereotypes, they might as well stuff her in the sequel gown."

At least not more offensive than the tendency to destroy more and more of the original character of the princesses in every redesign.

Like Swanpride it's the new design that destroys the original movie design.

I just find Pocahontas redesign a bit of an over kill. Disney gone out of their way with accessories and Pocahontas sticks out like a sore thumb with the amount of feathers for her accessories. It's like Disney's trying to say "Hey look at this Princess she must be a Native American because of the feathers she's wearing." She doesn't blend in with the other Princesses any more.

Come on, at least she has new design at last. I understand your point but all others princesses' redesign are also more or less mistakes, e.g. I think Mulan's yellow dress was big mistake since yellow was mainly for noble's color in China and Mulan was country girl(luckily they changed it green). I agree what Swanpride and Elemental-Aura said, and besides this is one of the first times they ever redesigned her so they kind of had to make it stereotypically. Though I hope this won't be permanent thing.

Am I the only one who likes her redesign? I prefer her old design but I like the new one too - it's nice to see her looking different after all of these years; we'll always have the old design.

I wouldn't call it offensive, more like culturally incorrect. Which Disney does sometimes and I don't get offended when they do so about my culture.

It's inaccurate, stereotypical, but not TOO offensive. Like when people call my Asian friends a genius, they get REALLY annoyed, but they don't go on ranting about it and yelling. They just give them a look as if they're retarded. It's same with this... except it's not positive. But one shouldn't get too angry about it. Plus Disney has been running out of ideas for a bit, so whaddya expect?

^Lol that's exactly what I do, when people use racial stereotypes I don't think is true or funny, I give them that look as if they were retarded.
