Did something happen to Hotchner wife?

On Slave of Duty his son is watching a video of him and his mom playing futebol at his birthday party, the Hotchner says something about none of them have not slept since the funeral?

Yes. Something did happen to Hotchner's wife. She was murdered por a guy the BAU was trying to catch. He came up into her house,acting like she could trust him,and he shot her. But Hotchner beat him to death over everything.
