At Comic-Con on Saturday, Marvel officially introduced Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll onstage alongside the central cast of

, the stand-alone superhero flick that director Peyton Reed took over from the recently exited Edgar Wright. Marvel honcho Kevin Feige revealed that Lilly, already in town for Warner Bros’

panel earlier in the day, will play Hope Pym, daughter of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), who is looking to pass the Ant-Man

mantle on to Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) in the pic. Stoll will play Darren Cross, a colleague of Pym’s who obtains Pym particles and dons the villainous mantle of Yellowjacket.

There’s just one hitch: Lilly said she hasn’t even seen a script yet. ”I can’t tell you anything else about her because I don’t know,” she said. “I’ve been evading the press over the last two days at Comic-Con about who I’ll be playing.”

She’s not the only one who may not have the latest Ant-Man info. Lilly was at first introduced as playing the role of “Hope Van Dyne” instead of Hope Pym, causing confusion for some fans. Hope Pym and her mother Janet Van Dyne are two different but related characters in Marvel lore, the latter also known as superheroine The Wasp, who like Ant-Man has the ability to shrink herself. In the Marvel canon, she also has ties to the Avengers. Lilly, however, is playing Hope Pym, who in one strain of Marvel comics lore later becomes the supervillain Red Queen.

Marvel-watchers might chalk the ambiguity up to scripting changes made between Wright’s version and the studio’s later revisions. Deadline reported yesterday that Patrick Wilson, Matt Gerald and Kevin Weisman have fallen out of the pic, which has been in some state of flux after director Wright dropped out. Insiders say Gerald and Weisman’s characters were omitted in the newly evolved version of the script. Wilson, on the other hand, had a scheduling conflict.

Also during the panel, Feige mentioned that production kicks off August 18 in Atlanta — and yet, he showed a polished-looking clip from the film. Introducing the video, he credited the

test footage to screen here two years ago. “Thanks to Peyton, thanks to Paul, thanks to Michael and the visual effects team,” he said.

In the footage, Rudd in the Ant-Man suit jumps on a flying insect that Hank Pym, via voice-over, is telling him to control. “Paul is in great shape that the Ant-Man

body suit, we had to soften up,” said Reed. “We’re actually using CGI to remove muscles.”

Said Douglas, “This is a story of a heist, and my partner played by Corey Stoll is taking the company in a different direction. Added Stoll: ”Some judgmental people says it’s an evil direction.”
