I believe this is what BROOKE thought - personally, I don't think he was in love with Peyton before getting together with her in s4: they had a strong bond, though, and definitely needed to explore being a couple.

I don't know if I'd say it was "love"- (but definitely not "stalking lust" as that quote from a previous poll states) but Lucas definitely had strong feels for Peyton- and it seems even stronger than his feelings for Brooke in season 1. But whether or not it was him being in love with Peyton- Brooke saw it as love so that's why she said that quote in season 7.

And even if the quote is supposed to mean that Brooke always felt like Lucas was in love with Peyton throughout their entire relationship (which I don't think is what Brooke was saying)- as the audience we got to see what Brooke couldn't see and saw that that wasn't true. Sure his feelings for Peyton were stronger in season 1- I don't think there's a question about that. But seasons 2 , 3, and the beginning of 4 show Lucas clearly in love with Brooke and only Brooke.... Brooke just had trouble believing it. Therefore it's not surprising that she would say something implying that Lucas loved Peyton more than her....whether she meant season 1 or season 3- cause that's how Brooke saw it. Unfortunately she just couldn't see the truth.
